Ronald Koeman discussion

No. Two years of stagnation where the top six sides have (bar an anomaly last year) improved dramatically in terms of revenue, squad quality and management.

It's a larger gap to bridge now than it was - and it was big back then.

We are still the best of the also rans. Nothing has really changed that much.

The 6 at the top should all be taking points off each other anyway. We just need to make sure we dont do anything stupid which we always seem to do and have done for many years.

Pep inherited a Barcelona squad that finished behind Villareal and 18 points behind Real Madrid the previous season. He cut Deco and Ronaldinho loose and won everything for 3 years while promoting a load of youth players. City are an ageing squad and he's only been there 6 months. Mental to call him a poor manager because he's had one rough patch in his entire career imo

Still got a lot to prove for me (im sure he is gutted).

To be fair I dont like him and his "football".

We aren't though mate - we're now aiming to be the best of the rest.

For two years we haven't been that. Southampton have...

Now, to make sure we consolidate our current position and finish where we are now (at the least) we're relying on having a good January window...

We are currently the best of the rest are we not? 7th place in the league?

What i am saying is that people are massively overstating the position we are in. After the "big clubs" that area in the middle is neither hear nor there. Some people are acting like we are Barnet or something and we need a massive phoenix from the flames style recovery. We dont.

Doesnt matter anyway, we will be able to buy the league soon.....

We are currently in the position yes, but my point is that the gap between ourselves and the top 6 is so huge.

Do I think we're better than the other 13 teams below us? Yes, definitely. But a few injuries here and lack of form for a few players there and it can be very different. So that's why we need some quality additions to the first-team (as Koeman said himself earlier).

Not a million miles, but compare us to Spurs... as an example of similar-sized clubs a few years ago. They're now genuine title contenders. Fingers crossed, soon enough we'll be there...

...And if not, we'll just buy it like you said ;)

With his comments this week I think we can all clearly see why RK has been so laid back over the last few months. He knew change was afoot and to me simply looks like he is biding his time until the project properly kicks off.

If he manages to keep us at the right end of the table for now until he brings in the players he identifies, he is doing a decent job.

I watched a Premier League download show last night, had Lineker interviewing Koeman. Now I've been quite disinterested in him since his appointment, preferring to reserve judgement until the end of the season. This was the first time I've actually seen him interviewed in depth (post match interviews aside). I actually liked what he had to say. He was quite open with his thoughts on Ross and Rom, his plans for the future and his goals for this season and beyond.
One thing that I wasn't aware of was his goalscoring stats, something like 197 goals in 500 appearances - as a defender! That's remarkable!
For this first time, I warmed to him. I hope he's successsful and is able to follow thru on his plans.

Just watched interview and he seems relaxed with position and knew what he was getting into and confident about the club going forward.

Still the best of the also rans? We have been 11th for two years running... so we weren't the best of the also rans or else we'd be in Europe ... and we are not the best of the also rans at the moment... season is never decided in January... plenty of time to collapse and finish 11th again... if we finish 7th then we will have proved we are the best of the also rans.. saints have probably been that or maybe westham last year...

Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea can all buy the league as well. Plus they have far better managers.

Stuck up for him throughout the whole season but there's 20 minutes to save our season here.

Leicester have had 9 domestic away games this year, they've won 0.

Mate, five minutes ago we looked to be easing to a win.

He started the strongest possible team and the subs he made helped us.

The players have bottled it as they always do.

The buck stops with the manager though. Bugger all to play for if we go out of this.
