Ronald Koeman discussion

I listened to a number of Soton fans on TS the other night before their game with the RS.

They were generally frustrated with Puel's possession based football, and said they preferred the more attacking style that Koeman played at St Mary's.

They weren't a 'kick and rush' side under him either, which makes the idea that we're currently playing the football that Koeman is looking to create here laughable tbh. Give the man chance to change the squad and instil his methods onto them before his supposed style is judged. The criticism from many of the Martinez acolytes started literally within weeks of his first game ffs.

But he'll only get the Arsenal job or anything like that if he does an amazing job here. We're a much bigger club then Southampton with much bigger ambitions. He got the job here because he did a great job at Southampton and he'd have to do the equivalent of that here which would involve either winning a trophy and/or getting a top four place, if he goes after that he can do so with my blessings! But why would Arsenal want him at this moment? He's done nothing that would justify their interest at this moment. We're always so worried that Arsenal will steal our manager but in reality they'd never even look twice at him! They weren't interested in Martinez after 2013-14 and they aren't interested in Koeman now. The reality for Koeman is that we are his glass ceiling and until he breaks through it and does something great here then he won't be able to move up to that level everyone thinks he would drop us for.

Re Koeman and his 'glass ceiling'...I don't think that's come into play yet. The Peter Principle will certainly apply if he goes up another level from Everton after we are established top five or six.

Plus, if he has achieved CL with us, it would more than likely be at Arsenal's expense. If he breaks the glass ceiling with us, there'd be nothing Arsenal could offer him that we couldn't match. Wages, transfer fees, CL football, trophy opportunities, there'd be no difference. I could maybe see Barca calling at that point or maybe City but not Arsenal.

I used Arsenal as a Example, pick any number of clubs in Spain, Italy etc etc

He sees us a stepping stone, like Southampton.

The irony of that is Arsenal would only possibly go for him if we cracked the top 4, which I believe would be at the expense of Arsenal. So why would he leave a team in the CL to a team that's not?

Like who? Who would want him that would be a step up from us at this point of his managerial career?

Some posters said RK uses Everton as a stepping stone. To be honest, who would not? Moyes done it in fact most managers will do the same...until the moment when Everton have the financial power to challenge the Sky6. And for now it seems Moshiri is doing it...progressively?

As I said above who would want Koeman at this moment that would be a step up from us? Can we have some name's please, because I've seen nothing right now that would justify interest from clubs above were we are. Even if we did get back into the top six he'd have to be more successful then that to move up a level.

Exactly, until we become one of the elite then every player/manager will think the same.
Its up to Moshiri to get us to the point were there is no better place to be, but right now there is 6 teams that are more attractable than us just in this league.

It is obvious that Koeman doesn't have the team he wants, and that is the main reason why I am holding judgement for now. Maybe phasing Barry out will help usher in his era of football, but we need to get the right support for Lukaku as well. A lot really depends on how Ross develops the rest of this season.

He is not an Evertonian like us, you need to take them blue tinted glasses off and accept we are not all that currently.
Clearly we aren't all that right now and we haven't been for a long time but that's not my point. You haven't answered my question. We must of offered Koeman something good to make him leave Southampton. No doubt you'll simply say it was the money and it probably is partly that but it was mainly down to the fact that we are a more attractive club in a more attractive position then Southampton are. You expect that surely?! So the question is, what club right now would want him that are in a more attractive position then we are that can offer him better then us? Can we have some name's this time please because everyone keeps saying he will drop us but they never say who for in any serious sense anyway.

Their performance against the RS was 10x better than anything Koeman's had us playing this season.
