Ronald Koeman discussion

Loved that comment that some of the players in the squad already know they have no future at Everton.

Sounds good to me and possibly explains why they cant be arsed.

Ronnie is right, we need replacements in asap so that we can get rid.

No I agree. Its different for different teams though, some have to play within their means. Its easier to play nice flowing football if you can afford to buy all the best players or have a good national pool to call from. The less fortunate have to adapt which is why it annoys when people say how football should be played. It can be played any way which is what makes it a great sport. I dont think the less fortunate thing applies to Everton though which is why the long ball stuff this year has been quite baffling.

I hate everything about Barcelona and their style of football. I think its been really bad for the game as a whole.
Any PL club can adopt the right method to play controlled football and afford the players that can make it tick. They dont have to be superstars...in fact superstars are the last thing such teams need.

If you do go that way there;'s also a need to have all the club on board with it: fans/players/owners. They all buy into it. Swansea benefitted from that for a decade or more before they strayed from the formula. Here we had fans buying into it briefly with the owners and players, but reversals on the pitch and a poor spell of results shook belief in it halfway through RMs second season and it didn't take long to topple the whole thing over.

As I said above who would want Koeman at this moment that would be a step up from us? Can we have some name's please, because I've seen nothing right now that would justify interest from clubs above were we are. Even if we did get back into the top six he'd have to be more successful then that to move up a level.

Exactly. He has to be successful with Everton to be able to move on to 'better'...what I am saying is that his next move may be a move too far for him. He certainly hasn't done anything managerially yet that would interest the likes of Barcelona, and even if he did ever in the future get a justifiable move that far up the ladder, he may not have the specific skill to perform successfully at that level. Everton(or equal?) may be the best he can maintain with success.

Barcelona have wrecked football and placed horrible ideals in people's head of how teams need to play to win. Never seen so many titles won by United playing 4-4-2 with quick counters, lots of crosses and decent strikers.
Dont confuse that with direct football.

Yeah, funnily enough I think that's spot on: if the manager is telling them they have no future then they dont get motivated.

What is the point of saying stuff like that?

It's a numb nuts managerial strategy. But ok, he's Dutch and we're supposed to give him a free pass on it?

No chance.

I've no problem him telling the likes of niasse and mcGeady they are not wanted here and find new clubs, but surely it is the best practise to utilise what you have at present before reinforcements are on the way (e.g. January window). Any workforce is going to be demotivated if they knew they were going to be replaced. Some would say this is exactly what the club needs, maybe koeman has upset the squad and as a result certain players form has been affected. If he gets the right players in now, there can be no excuses and I'm delighted with the start of the window business.

Love the way Ronald reads this thread and knows exactly how to press certain peoples buttons. Amazing stuff.

I like the honesty and the direction we are going. Onwards and upwards. Loving life today , even more at 4.15 when I walk out this door today.

I'm made up he's called out the wasters in the squad, here's me caring about their feelings being hurt:

The mid 80s team was the perfect example of how to vary styles to become unstoppable. Predictability is the enemy. They could play through teams on the deck, they could go wide and cross it in, they could flick on long balls, they could out scrap teams or out play them. Neat passing football is just as poor as route one long ball if it is as predictable and easy to defend against. Koeman needs to usher in a varied style, I believe we've seen some glimpses of it but we need to start seeing it a lot more. Hopefully more player additions will allow him to do this.

Koeman's a good manager. Not a fantastic one but he's a bit more than just decent.

But if he goes...well, Eddie Howe, The Blue One, is doing pretty well in the league with a squad with great british influence.

I reckon there's a bit of "there's a lot of Everton players are available to buy" hoping to attract other clubs to make offers for the dead wood in his comment.
