Ronald Koeman discussion

Ha yeah I bet. I'm not a wum, I just register on rivals forums to chat sometimes.
No sarcasm, I think Koeman is a good manager, do you lads hate Klopp or what? The media love in is cringy like

Don't hate him at all. I think, since Fagan he is the only near likeable manger you've had.
His antics are a bit 'off the wall' but this was known well before he came to England.
As others have said, when the media decide to turn we will see if he goes down the route of lashing out and deciding his city neighbours are an easy target with 'sound-bite' belittling comments.

Personally I think he is a decent bloke who will do the best he can for however long he stays in as professional manner as the press will allow.

Things are looking better I guess , understand why he is unlikeable but he is breath of fresh air at times and I imagine standards around training have improved dramatically with actual professional staff etc. I think the home record is looking great

Don't hate Klopp, infact I think he is a good coach I simply find his touchline antics totally annoying, it will also be interesting to see how his relationship with the press will go once they decide to knock him off his pedestal.

Yeah that sums it up.

Liverpool and Klopp have done OK. He's improving players and not whining - basically a 180 after Rogers wandered around Europe SQUANDERING MILLIONS AND BRITISH TALENT and couldn't win the league with arguably one of the best players in the world (Suarez).

If Klopp's added positivity, ironically I think Koeman's steadying Everton through a bit less talk after all Martinez's phenomenal crap. Very pleased with chances for our youth players and hope Galloway's back next year, too. I'm not a flag waver for Koeman but do think Moshiri and him are doing pretty much all the right things right now and need to be judged in a coupla seasons.

Success?
  • Klopp's media honeymoon of no expectation will end and I think top four in the next couple of seasons will be the measure. And even then he's the Prem's new Arsene Wenger, only without any trophies.
  • I think if Koeman gate crashes the top 6 in the same period that's great. Europa seems to be an expectation and a cup would be GREAT. If he does most of that, AND continues the onus on youth AND we seal a Stadium deal in the same spell, well, arguably he's equalled Moyes which is no mean feat.

It's strange how the media treat different managers/clubs. Wenger and Arsenal get lambasted for only finishing top 4 every year and winning only the FA cup twice. Liverpool managers apart from Hodgson get showered with praise yet the last few (including Klopp to this point) have zero trophies and one season in the CL (which was disastrous). Can you imagine if Mourinho had lost his last 5 cup finals? You'd never hear the end of that stat.

Then there's Everton where every manager is criticised for failing to win a trophy regardless of what they do in the league. Finishing 7th is seen as a failure despite it being a position that Spurs and Liverpool managers have regularly occupied. If you're the manager of Spurs or West Ham though you can win jack all and nothing is ever mentioned about it. Pochettino is obviously a good manager but the only stats to his name so far is coming third in a two horse race behind the much maligned Wenger.

I'm not sure what the media make of Koeman. Feels like they want to put the boot in but then see that we're 7th without playing that well. His standing in the game obviously means there's an expectation of a bit more to come from us. I think he'll start ruffling some feathers if he gets in amongst their beloved super six in the second half of the season.

I have to stop and check myself sometimes. My internal dialogue is this:

Internal me: You know that fella that used to play for Barcelona. The one who scored all those boss free kicks, you know, the highest scoring defender of all time. You remember him?
Me: Yeah, I think so... Ronald Koeman?
Internal me: That's the one. You know - respected across the footballing world. Managed the big three of Dutch football. Genuine legend in the game. Part of Cruyff's Dream Team. Proven manager. Him.
Me: Yeah, go on...
Internal me: Well he's managing Everton now. Your club. The one you've supported all your life. He's the boss.
Me: What not Martinez? Won the FA Cup with Wigan the same season they got relegated. Played for Wigan for years. Famous for... well basically that.
Internal me: Yeah. That's right. Ronald Koeman is Everton's manager.

Despite the moaners (and you know who you are) it is an exciting time to be an Everton fan.

6th will probably finish up with 70-73pts so that was probably a bridge too far. So 7th (assuming we finish 7th) is progress I guess. He's fixed the D despite having a defender who lost it, a defender who's a living breathing brain fart, band-aid keepers and a DM who is the slowest human being on the planet. Next year though I would expect 7-12pt improvement and a cup run that isn't a clown show. Koenman will have his guys in and he will have spent probably around 100M by then.

Every Everton manager is criticised for failing to win a trophy? Really? Moyes certainly didn't get criticised and he won nothing, it was quite the opposite, he was feted. Martinez was rightly getting the plaudits in his 1st season before it sadly tailed off in his 2nd. Who is it that criticises for not winning a trophy? The fans or the Media? Because it's certainly not the Media. Pochetttino gets positive reviews as he took Spurs to a title challenge (for a while anyway!) and got them top 4, when it probably wasn't really expected. And has turned them into a real force. Are you really questioning why Spurs get positive press despite them not winning anything? Koeman would get the plaudits big time, if he got us into the top 4 or 5. Win games and you get noticed.
You think Spurs and Liverpool finishing 7th wasn't seen as a failure? Brenda got the sack not long after finishing 6th or 7th. You are paranoid and over analyse everything.

I like Klopp tbh, as much as would prefer to hate him obviously, I just can't.

He's a good manager, but I still question his temperament, it'll be interesting to see how he reacts when you have a bad spell, as he's a meltdown waiting to happen imo.

No mate the pro kopite media conspiracy is real, just embrace it, late the hate run through you.

The thing I'll say about klopp is his mask is proper slipping lately. Moaning about every decision, being hypocritical.

Other than that and his meffy tramp looks / antics he seems alright
