Ronald Koeman discussion

Indeed it was. I'd literally just got to my seat to see Alcaraz go full Martinez on us all. Absolute clown. It was all a but mad that day really. He played Deulofeu despite his mentor at Barca just passing away and he never looked into it.

Wouldnt say we battered them second half but we were a but better. Osman if i recall had the pen denied. Looked like one from where I was but I think MOTD proved otherwise.

Was all probably Tim Howard's fault anyway.

Yes, Ossie.

I remember now...we did not have a goal chalked off but Del was put clean through and was onside, bearing down with only the goalie to beat and the lineman raised his flag

No.

Had we beaten Palace we'd have been two points above Arsenal I think - as that was our game in hand.

We lost that and then fell apart by either drawing or losing the next two games IIRC?

Or, we may have beaten Man Utd in the next game but by then Arsenal had gone ahead. Something like that.

I can't remember when the 2-0 at Southampton with Alcaraz and Coleman OG's pretty much reached peak Everton bottle. But it was around that time.

We recorded out records point total? I'm not sure how we bottled it considering any other year would have got us in the champions league and in terms of winning games it was our best ever premier league season. It's easy to say we bottled it but when the team league wise performed better than any other team since 1989 (?) And only lost out based on simply arsenal pushing the bar to essentially title race levels then that is us simply not being good enough.

In fact we would have only been 6 points off the actual winners of the league if we had done it! I'm sorry but that isn't bottling by any means, essentially it is complaining we didn't challenge for the title that season.

Because we had it in our hands and threw it away. That's bottling it isn't it?

Just like Liverpool bottled the league that year.

Same thing.

You can define my words any way you like. Even using American expressions like 'lite' if it makes you feel better. Howard was a different case. As others have already stated, he earned our patience by being one of us - and a special one at that. Personally, I was already long trousers when he was managing us first time around and no, I never did throw a cushion at the pitch
Kendall certainly gained a season of patience because of his past record. But make no mistake if that season had not turned as dramatically as it did ,by its end he would have been toast.
I remember being stood on the paddock on November night in a crowd of less than 10 thousand with the sleet swirling around me ears (I may be adding that for dramatic effect)as we scraped a 2-1 victory over Coventry in the LC . We had been beat by the RS 3-0 in the previous game. God! I wanted him sacked that night.

I’m not defining anything mate, you’re the one who responded to an open post trying to justify your position. Deep down, if we got beat over the next 4 games and you knew it would lead to a sacking, you’d happily accept that.

And excuse me, but my Kendall getting patience, does that equate to the 13k attendance and leaflets being handed out demanding his head?

You were 'defining' my words. You used the word 'defined' when commenting on my position. Check your own post.

Now regarding the position of the '13,000' attending Goodison in Howard's early days, you might be be better off speaking to some of those who stayed away rather than went the games. Or alternatively, try the people in attendance who presumably printed the leaflets or those who could afford to hire and throw cushions. Can't help you with any of that I'm afraid. Maybe you have an adult relative who could?

Again though it was asking the best performing team in premier league era to go even beyond that simply to overcome the fact that arsenal got more points. 2 seasons after that would have had us 4th and 2nd respectfully. No idea about the years before as I can't be arsed checking.

We had a champions league qualifying season that year, on a rare occasion it wasn't good enough .
