Ronald Koeman discussion

I'm led to believe Koeman went to his daughters wedding in Spain, which is obviously perfectly understandable - I fully retract my previous fume.

Don’t worry about if, Groucho.

If it wasn’t that it would have been sommat else.

He always gets outta Dodge at international break time ;)

My impression too. What is the downside to his sacking from his point of view? A temporary loss of prestige that he can quickly recoup in the Dutch League because he will still be a name there. And in two years from now, after the setback at EFC where he can argue that he was not given time to change things, he will be back in the pecking list. Just like RM, if Belgium makes a fist of it.

Upside = 10 million gross plus a nice earner for his little brother too. Made for life.

The very epitome of a win/win situation ;)

Everton situation causing reputation damage, and could lead to closed door

It’s not an exaggeration to say Ronald Koeman edged himself forward for the Barcelona job during the summer.

The Everton manager was never the front-runner, and was well aware of that, but did come and go in the shortlists and so wasn’t without a chance.

Koeman skated the thin line of cosying up to the Catalan media, and dropping hints about a potential Barcelona role, but usually giving a nod to the future, so as not to upset Everton and the club’s fans too much.

Any hopes of getting the Barcelona job in the medium term obviously depend a lot on what Koeman does at Everton, and therefore the club’s current woes won’t be assisting that.

The Catalan media are widely covering Koeman’s Everton difficulties, with Mundo Deportivo saying he’s in a ‘total crisis’ despite the backing of the club’s owner.

It’s all harmful to the Dutchman’s managerial reputation, and he’ll hope it passes soon, and a better period for Everton helps his Barcelona chances.

Everton failure would surely lead to a closed Barcelona door in the short to medium term.

Despite the understandable fume I remain convinced he will still be here beyond the transfer window for a variety of reasons.
First and foremost he was Moshiri's choice and he will not sack him just a few months into the season , he almost certainly brought him in because of his experience in difficult situations in the PL, and he will back his man. Moshiri's slightly clumsy statement indicated what we all know ,that any managers second season is the most difficult and a certain amount of patience is required. Both our previous managers suffered second season syndrome ( admittedly in Bobby's case it was terminal). Moshiri knows that despite an impressive start to the transfer window, the club failed to provide him with the target man and defender he requested, something they will hope to correct in the next window.

All fair points, Eggsy, but RK has to start getting some results soon or EFC could be in a relegation fight and that means the team has to have a plan and some selection stability soon. Mosiri cannot wait till January if results remain poor. The team is playing really badly, as badly as anyone -bar Palace -in the Premier and needs a massive rethink

And RK has given no sign that he can fix the many problems it has and pick a winning team.

Koeman is going to declare independence

To benefit the club and look at the bigger picture would we be better off losing out next 2 games? I no it's a controversial thing to say, but that would surely bring the end to Koemans reign and would take us back to a level we could start to build again. The way Moyes had to work kept us on the same level for years which was ok to a degree, but after him it was meant to be a new start to make us great again, Moshiri came things were looking bright but now a few years with Martinez and Koeman, I feel we are at a lower level than when Moyes was here and to make it worse on paper we are suppose to have better players. But the key thing for me here us to get Koeman out, it should have been done after the burley game.

To quote Harold Macmillan (there’s a name for the teenagers, @degsy ), when asked what was the most difficult thing about being PM......”events dear boy, events”.

And if “events” at Everton keep spiralling downwards, and for the life of me I see no signs of a revival :(, Moshiri is going to find himself needing to react to said events long before the end of the next window at the end of January.

If things keep on in the present vein my money is on him going either before or during the next International break, in November.

To retain him any longer would be sheer folly IMO.
