Also really baffling how some are ignoring the fact that emery is in third place in the French league with a team that won the title by 31 points last season atm, and has managed to let arsenal somehow not finish in second place in a cl group.

May be a good manager but continues like this he'll be sacked before febuary.

It was all about Monchis structure. If you look at most of their managers they do well there and then tail off when they leave.

But how different is to when Martinez said that it was a compliment to Everton that clubs such as, would be interested in our players, as though we shouldn't even be able to have them in the first place.

That was equally demeaning, if not worse.

Don't reckon comparing Koeman to our "worst ever manager" is a fair one, I thought Koeman was the next big deal. Bit harsh to lump them both together.

Can also say that about 95% of managers from any club that move countries, or take a step up to a bigger team fail mate.

I dunno, it's shades of grey, but the Martinez line implies more that Everton take players and improve them to a standard that has the best clubs paying an interest. That is genuinely a compliment to the club. Ron's comments essentially say 'if Everton is the most high-profile club on Rom's wiki page by the end of his career then he's wasted his talent'.

Every word of that is true and nobody with any sense would argue with you.

But Ron should not be saying it publically. That is the issue here. Even if he doesnt believe it he should be bigging Everton up. We all have to tow the party line at some stage. He's our manager ffs.

By making these comments all he's doing is alienating the fans and making it acceptable for everyone, including our players, to think of Everton as a stepping stone club. Not the done thing when we're trying to build a team that can compete for trophies.

I don't think anyone thinks he's the 'next big deal' he may be too old to get to that level, when comparing to Klopp, Pep and Jose as they were making inroads to that title at amuck younger age. I've not seen anyone say it anyway.

I have on the other hand heard that about Martinez.

But comparisons to the last manager at ANY club are always gonna be made.

Moyes to SAF. LVG to Moyes and SAF.

Even on this forum, the Martinez/Moyes debate was common and accepted. Not sure why this would be different.

I agree with @ianefc that yes, it wasn't probably needed. But seemingly Koeman was asked a question and he answered it, truthfully.

He didn't put a timescale on it, or say Rom would be leaving next summer even. He actually said they have a good relationship.

But, he acknowledged that Rom would not have fulfilled his potential should he stay at Everton all of his career. The las is 23 and has scored 50 Prem goals for us already, and has over 100 career goals...

If he doesn't end up at one of the European giants further down the line, his talent would not have been fulfilled.

Correct. They're not identical but similar.

Shocking from the apologists here.

If Moyes or Martinez had explicitly said Lukaku was too good for us, we would have collectively lost our minds. It doesn't matter if it's true. What Moyes said about Fellaini and Baines was (at the time arguably) true. No one was ok with that. But because this fella won some trophies as a player and took Southampton to the dizzying heights of 6th we're supposed to lap it up.

Similarly I wouldn't have had an issue with RM saying it.
