Ronald Koeman discussion

I don't disagree with you over what you have outlined, in all fairness we know this.
I think my point is we should be trying encourage him and others to stay, we need to show we are a potential challenger
The comment from RK for me indicates we have little or no intention to build something around the one real star we have in the team

Still a poor comment from him, but if honest forgot about it now

Maybe, but we've successfully managed to keep him for the last 2 windows. I suspect RK is bigging him up to drive up any potential transfer fee. Unfortunately for RK, he jumped aboard the Goodison train a bit too late where Lukaku is concerned. He already committed another "one more season" to RK's tenure.

Furthermore, has RK managed to stay in a job longer than 2 seasons? I've heard that's usually his time frame whilst waiting for the holy grail (Barca)? If so, it is probably why he isn't too concerned.

On a more positive note:

Ronald Koeman wants to turn Everton into Premier League title contenders: 'This is a very big club and the aim is to be in the top positions again'
  • Everton sit seventh in Premier League table after 11 games of the season
  • Ronald Koeman took over as manager at Goodison Park in the summer
  • Dutchman has ambitions to challenge for the title with the Toffees
  • He accepts coaches don't get much time to impress in modern football

Ronald Koeman has a grand plan to turn Everton into Premier League title contenders but the Dutchman has stressed that won't happen overnight.

The Toffees currently lie seventh in the table, eight points behind leaders Liverpool, having played some enterprising football since Koeman arrived at Goodison Park as Roberto Martinez's successor over the summer.

Koeman has form when it comes to improving top-flight sides, having taken Southampton to their highest ever Premier League finish of sixth place last season, but he has ambitions to go even further with Everton.

Ronald Koeman has set out his plans to turn Everton into Premier League title contenders

'It is a long time since Everton were winning trophies and challenging for the title in England, but that is what we want to do,' he told ESPN.

'This is a very big club and the aim is to be in the top positions again, challenging for the important places in the Premier League.'

Toffees fans shouldn't expect immediate success even if a first top-division title since 1987 is the ultimate goal once Koeman has assembled the squad he wants and moulded the backroom staff at Goodison in his own image.

But the former Barcelona player appreciates he might not be given all the time he needs.

'It takes time when you come to a club to get everything you want in place, but I understand that in this game now, you do not always have the time,' he said.

'Results are very important and while we say there should be more patience, that is just not how this game works now.

'Long-term projects are no longer possible if you do not have success quickly and even though most supporters appreciate a manager should have some time, others can put pressure on the owners and decision makers at clubs who hire and sack managers.'

As for the current campaign, Koeman has clear objectives for his Everton team.

'The ambition this season will be challenging for European football,' he said.

'We have introduced some new players last summer and it takes time to find the right balance in the team and to find consistency, but I feel it is not far away.

'If we are competing for a place in the Europa League in my first season here, then that would be a good achievement. I think this is possible, but we can see a lot of teams with the same ambition as us in the Premier League, so it will not be easy.'

I think someone, probably Moshiri, has had a word in his ear and requested he come out with something a tad more positive following the blunder last week
