Ronald Koeman discussion

Why is he, he is contacted to us for another 3 years

We are told nothing will be the same, but the comments attributed to RK don't really stand up

We should be looking at building a squad around him and bringing players in that can complement him.
Surely that would be the aim of any manager who wants to build a team that is built to challenge.

This isn't just having a go at RK, I was the same over DM

Just a stupid comment.....but time to move on

Because we can't force a player to stay. Yes we can all say "let him rot on the bench" but football is first and foremost a business. If he doesn't want to stay, we sell while there is some value. We wont be challenging for CL and that's what he wants. 3 years on his contract relates directly to his value when he is sold. Can you imagine him banging in 50 goals in 2 and a quarter seasons with a CL club. He'll be a proper legend. Unfortunately he'll never achieve that dream here.

Just trying to be a realist mate. Optimism is saved for real life shiz.

It’s still too early to say who will be the favourites, but I have been impressed by Liverpool so far,” Koeman said.

“Maybe that is not what you might expect the Everton manager to say, but they have been playing some very good football and deserve to be at the top. They have goals in their team and this is what all successful sides need.

“Of course they can be champions this season, they have a good chance, but they are not the only contenders

We're going to completely roll over for them at Anfield AGAIN aren't we?

My worst nightmare.

how would we all cope if that happened?!

There are just things you don't say as a manager of Liverpool or Everton. Someone needs to tell him that.

Ronald Koeman wants to turn Everton into Premier League title contenders: 'This is a very big club and the aim is to be in the top positions again'
  • Everton sit seventh in Premier League table after 11 games of the season
  • Ronald Koeman took over as manager at Goodison Park in the summer
  • Dutchman has ambitions to challenge for the title with the Toffees
  • He accepts coaches don't get much time to impress in modern football

Ronald Koeman has a grand plan to turn Everton into Premier League title contenders but the Dutchman has stressed that won't happen overnight.

The Toffees currently lie seventh in the table, eight points behind leaders Liverpool, having played some enterprising football since Koeman arrived at Goodison Park as Roberto Martinez's successor over the summer.

Koeman has form when it comes to improving top-flight sides, having taken Southampton to their highest ever Premier League finish of sixth place last season, but he has ambitions to go even further with Everton.

Ronald Koeman has set out his plans to turn Everton into Premier League title contenders

'It is a long time since Everton were winning trophies and challenging for the title in England, but that is what we want to do,' he told ESPN.

'This is a very big club and the aim is to be in the top positions again, challenging for the important places in the Premier League.'

Toffees fans shouldn't expect immediate success even if a first top-division title since 1987 is the ultimate goal once Koeman has assembled the squad he wants and moulded the backroom staff at Goodison in his own image.

But the former Barcelona player appreciates he might not be given all the time he needs.

'It takes time when you come to a club to get everything you want in place, but I understand that in this game now, you do not always have the time,' he said.

'Results are very important and while we say there should be more patience, that is just not how this game works now.

'Long-term projects are no longer possible if you do not have success quickly and even though most supporters appreciate a manager should have some time, others can put pressure on the owners and decision makers at clubs who hire and sack managers.'

As for the current campaign, Koeman has clear objectives for his Everton team.

'The ambition this season will be challenging for European football,' he said.

'We have introduced some new players last summer and it takes time to find the right balance in the team and to find consistency, but I feel it is not far away.

'If we are competing for a place in the Europa League in my first season here, then that would be a good achievement. I think this is possible, but we can see a lot of teams with the same ambition as us in the Premier League, so it will not be easy.'

Perhaps its better if the RS get too much praise and people are touting them up for the title already.

They certainly look like they are going to be in contention, we can't get round that.

I'm still pinning my hopes on City - they have had a bad run early, so maybe they can get it out of their system.

I thought the day the RS beat Norwich on the Sunday in May 2014 that nothing was going to stop them - it's only November.

I don't disagree with you over what you have outlined, in all fairness we know this.
I think my point is we should be trying encourage him and others to stay, we need to show we are a potential challenger
The comment from RK for me indicates we have little or no intention to build something around the one real star we have in the team

Still a poor comment from him, but if honest forgot about it now
