Who has improved since year one of Martinez? I would say Lukaku and maybe Robles... not really sure there's anyone else.

Stagnated or worse: Coleman, Jagielka, Baines, Barkley, Deulofeu, Mirallas, Gibson, Oviedo, Kone, McCarthy, McGeady...

Seems hard to believe two very different managers could be entirely to blame...

This is why, when it comes down to it, I'd say squad needs a re-vamp. I'm not totally sold on Koeman yet. But, these arent his players. He's not been successful in getting a big reaction from this squad. Nice little start, but thats ebbed away. He has a responsibility for that. But it looks like a significant part of the squad aren't buying into it. And, as you point out, they are the common denominator really. If Koeman had been here 2 seasons and the squad was 'his' then he'd be on the chopping block. The players are in that position now. Who, out of them, truly wants to stay? They have to earn it if they do.

I don't believe the idea that the squad needs replacing is a reasonable one because I don't believe that's the real issue. its being used by people to hide behind the truth which is koeman is not getting what he can out of the current bunch.

I agree with your main point as he's in no way getting the best out of the current squad, especially the younger players but the squad needs strengthening. We need a top class goalie, a commanding centre half and another forward. We needed these in the summer but none of them was addressed. What we shouldn't need is wholesale replacement.

I read an interview with Koeman that he prefers to be on the training pitch rather then scouting players, Koeman likes to get involved in training.

That top three in the list.

The most telling thing is who they took over from.

Billy took over from Harry Catterick.

Bobby from Moyes.

And Colin took over from Howard.

I know Harry's last season wasn't good but he left the nucleus of a good team.

Moyes stayed longer than he should have been allowed too IMO but he left a solid basis.

And Colin took over the reigning Champions.

In short Billy, Bobby and Colin were left a better legacy than any other manager on that list.....including the current incumbent.

But Big Joe deserves mist careful fir the opening thirteen games if his reign
