Ronald Koeman discussion

Aren't you contradicting yourself there?

If his commitment to Everton is purely for his own interests and personal gain, if he gets a better offer elsewhere he will be off.

He is an alright manager, £6m p/a is crazy when this is the dross he is serving up, though.

For 85 minutes today that was as bad as anything over the past 2 seasons.

1/10 now for wins and I don't see anything but that winless run extending over the Christmas period.

It wasn't though.

But ok, that's football.

Martinez started well. Koeman hasn't. On a plus note he's unbeaten at home and can still turn this around and give us some better memories.

He started very well.

It's tailed off dramatically and he's made some mistakes.

We're 14 league games into his tenure.

Half of these players won't be here at the start of next season.

@MoutsGoat is absolutely right about it being about the results.

At the moment the results haven't been good for two months. For the first month or so the results were good and that made me look past the fact that the football was disappointing. It is frustrating watching Everton play crap and misplace passes all over the shop, but you look past it if we're on a run of wins because where we sit in the table matters most.

I don't know right now if it is the manager, the tactics, a lack of application from the players, or simply a return to the mean as other team's pace of investment has caught up with us. Probably some combination of all of them.

Calling for his sacking this early while we are in the top half of the table is a laugh. He isn't going anywhere for at least a season, and rightly so. While the football and results have been crap for a few months there is a long time to turn it around and we aren't in relegation danger at all. It isn't good enough and everyone around the club knows it but we have to give him the time to see if he is the man to fix it.

I myself had a tiny moan about the performance, even when we were winning, IMO we havent played well all season, we have in patches, here and there, the odd half here, the odd little 20minute spell, but im seeing almost the same thing under Martinez, the ball just gets to a certain point and the move breaks down, the other team puts 2 banks of 4 and we have nobody to unlock the door.

Ironically Southampton away last September was the last time I thought we played well in the league, clearly the City game at Goodison for other games, so thats twice I can recall we have played really well in the last 12months.

No idea what happened in the Summer, but any fool can see the manager wasnt backed, its clear he set the board targets, which for 1 reason or another we didnt hit, but ok, this is football, they all get 30days to at least give him something fresh to work with.

I said myself a couple of days ago that this was on the wall when the window closed. The way he wants the team to play hasn't been effective and that could largely be down to the personnel and the attitudes that came into the squad last year. The fact that the players he has been able to bring in have looked like the most effective players in the team under his tactics would suggest that.

We tried to bring in more than what we did so I am remaining hopeful that with some time to mould the squad and recruit players that can be effective in his system that we may start seeing the results improve and hopefully the performances as well.

We played the best game we've played in a long time today as judged by the response of the crowd ...........Unlike you I am not Moaninho's puppet !

Best game we've played all season? Spurs at home, played footie on the deck, attacked them and should have won.
After that? The manager still deciding what his players can give him. Until he gets the players he wants, he should stick to the way we've played best so far.

It wasn't though.

Correct, Toff.

It wasn't for 85 minutes or owt like it.

We were good for the first ten minutes and the last twenty minutes were a good old fashioned Everton cavalry charge to the sound of the bugles sounding down the Gwladys.

The noise was deafening.....just like old times.

But the 60 minutes in between?

There probably have been worse Everton displays since the nadir of the Walter Smith era but by Jove I am hard pressed to think of any right now

There were a lot of rumours over the summer, theres The Mosh and others confirming our bids for Sissoko(phew), Koubs and the boy Perez now at Arse, then theres the little titbits for players such as Begovic, Carvalho, Hart, SigiSwan and a cast of 000s without a great deal of substance, but to me it all points that Ronny wanted what we currently miss, a commanding CB, which isnt as glaring, the defence, on the whole looks solid, just individual mistakes costing us, a CM who runs forward with the God damn ball, not taking anything away from the boy Gana, who is just immense and somebody to play up top with and push Lukaku for a spot.

So as you say, the signs are there and if we can get at least 3 players down the spine of the attacking unit, things should hopefully look a bit brighter.

Look I know its boring and people, considering the results are right to fume a little, do not get me wrong, im as pissed off as the next person with our current form and we honestly have a pig of a month coming up, im not sitting here pretending Ronny is farting unicorns, the football is disjointed, the results are poo, but ok, hes took over a club almost on its arse, 2 x 11th place finishes and a squad who packed up their suitcases in the league around March last year.

So as im trying to say, there isnt no overnight fix, its gonna take time, is Ronny the man to take us forward? I dunno, ask me again in 12months and even then I will probably say the same.

tl;dr
Dont hold a grudge cos of something he did at Valencia in 2007 or even cos he replaced your false idol.

But the 60 minutes in between?

I don't think we had the confidence, the strength of belief to continue the way we started. We were very compact in the first 10 minutes or so, defending high up the pitch, but then we slipped into old habits and dropped deeper. In doing so we isolate Lukaku playing alone up front and create gaps between our defence and midfield for opposing teams to exploit.

It was only when Valencia came on and pushed United deeper themselves that we were able to be assertive and exploit United's weaknesses ourselves.

You do hyperbole very well,by Jove. :). If you think it was he worst since Smith I can only assume you've been on holiday or inside for the last 2years. Was it a good stretch?

People saying our manager should get the sack cos we got a draw against United?

Funny bunch, Evertonians.

Funny indeed, Toff.

But I think you'll find anyone calling for the manager's head are reacting more to the fact we have now lifted a mere 7 points from the last 33 on offer rather than the fact we "merely" forced a late draw against a very ordinary Manchester United team.

Not that I am among their ranks, Toff.

Unless this bad run becomes a total Mike Walker era disaster zone I won't be wanting him out any time soon.

But that doesn't mean other fellows are not reading the runes right.

People need to wake up and smell the coffee here......we are on a dangerous slope and even a welcome twenty minute cameo from the Ghost of Everton Past cannot quell the sickening feeling that we are treading on mud right now and in danger of being dragged into a very messy mire between now and the New Year :(
