Ronald Koeman discussion

I really hope he can get some players in who he really wants, this lot are an embarrassment. I suppose once my fume has subsided over the absolute dross then of course he needs more time.

For what it's worth, I thought the defence was excellent yesterday, our attackers though are woefully short of confidence.

Correct, Toff.

It wasn't for 85 minutes or owt like it.

We were good for the first ten minutes and the last twenty minutes were a good old fashioned Everton cavalry charge to the sound of the bugles sounding down the Gwladys.

The noise was deafening.....just like old times.

But the 60 minutes in between?

There probably have been worse Everton displays since the nadir of the Walter Smith era but by Jove I am hard pressed to think of any right now

We only started looking like scoring when Valencia came on and we went 2 up front. 4-4-2 is an absolute must from the start next week, I can't wait for this 4-2-3-1 fad to die out

I didn't want Ronald and don't particularly like him, but I can handle some crap hoofball if....individual errors aside....he keeps us solid and gets us through Dec without getting hammered by anybody and grabbing some points.

I think he has form with Southampton for reverting to sitting deep and using route one to get out of a poor run of form. Other posters who will have watched Southampton under him more than I would confirm we should expect a different brand of football if he can get the type of players in that he wants. So I really hope some key positions are recruited for in Jan even if its not the best time to buy.

Personally my main concern with Koeman, apart from him being generally irritating on a regular basis, is that in what I expect to be his short time here he will do nothing to get the best out of Barkley and worse still move him on. Other young players too, but mainly with Ross as despite his fragile confidence and poor form now I still want to have him at the club and part of any stronger more confident squads we may have down the line. I'm convinced a boss Everton will mean we see a boss Barkley, as thats how its mostly been so far since Martinez threw him into the first team.

I think we will get a good win at Watford

Funny indeed, Toff.

But I think you'll find anyone calling for the manager's head are reacting more to the fact we have now lifted a mere 7 points from the last 33 on offer rather than the fact we "merely" forced a late draw against a very ordinary Manchester United team.

Not that I am among their ranks, Toff.

Unless this bad run becomes a total Mike Walker era disaster zone I won't be wanting him out any time soon.

But that doesn't mean other fellows are not reading the runes right.

People need to wake up and smell the coffee here......we are on a dangerous slope and even a welcome twenty minute cameo from the Ghost of Everton Past cannot quell the sickening feeling that we are treading on mud right now and in danger of being dragged into a very messy mire between now and the New Year :(

I agree, we've been crap since the end of September and that's worrying.

We've been in much worse situations though, and I trust the manager to get things right.

That being said, a good manager is a lucky manager also, and Koeman now needs to wake up and smell the coffee himself - there's a few very simple changes that will boost the entire club - the most prevalent being a change in system to help us get the best out of Rom - and thus score goals - whilst we are still in a transitional period, which we are.

Barkley looked devastated not to get on yesterday, but Koeman afterwards said he planned on using him, but the injury to Seamus forced his hand.

However, it's now all about how Barkley reacts.

Too often he just seems to lose confidence, and it's the one thing holding him back.

He needs to man up, really, or he'll never fulfil his potential - regardless of the manager.

Find it strange how someone who won everything in his career at Barcelona would play such a brand of football, Pep must take the pee at dinner like.

his defence is undefencable. we haven't lost at home is more luck than judgement. i doubt whether he knows what to do. january will be a fume filled month unless quality signings are made which is doubtful considering teams dont sell their best mid season.

Think it's needs-must atm mate.

Koeman never played this way with S'ton. But he had a high-energy midfield who could knock the ball around as well.

He doesn't have that here.

We have Gueye, who is excellent, but that's about it.

Barkley doesn't know what he is, and age is catching up on Barry. He's still an excellent player, but he can't be relied upon week in week out to control our games.

That means we are pretty much bypassing the midfield, and aiming for the forward players to get on the ball and hold it up, allowing us to play some neat togger in and around the area - e.g. the Mirallas chance.

However, more often than not we just lose it, as Rom can't hold it up, and needs support that we don't get too him often enough.

Valencia is a striker. He isn't a square peg in a round hole and he looks willing to do the leg-work that Rom can't/won't.

It also means that defenders have another player to think about and in turn it opens up space for Rom, and the midfielders to get forward into the attacking third.

It's really evident now that this is how we have to start.

He only works part time, Steve Walsh signs the players. He's too lazy to get involved.

As I keep saying get smashed by the rs at home , finish 14th or 15th - both of which are entirely plausible scenarios and he's gone at the end of the season
And if we get another manager in with this same awful squad only to find ourselves in a similar position next year? What happens then? We sacked him to? Are you determined to make us the new Sunderland?!
