Ronald koeman . New barca manager.

I suspect Koeman is just behaving (as he sees it logically).

Messi is a wonderful player, but is a bit of problem for Barca really. I think he exerts too much influence and his performance in the final wasn't great. However he has just scored 30 goals again this season, so you think it really needs to be handled tactfully. That is really not Koeman's strength.

I also think Koeman has probably over thought his own role as a legend there. I mean what he did will always stand the tests of time, but he's never going to win a fight with Messi. It would be like us comparing Dave Watson to Dixie Dean. Only 1 winner.

Messi is not the problem there, at all - as you say he performed to a level lower than previous but still ludicrous this season.

The problems are the board, the recruitment and the style of play. Forcing their best player out solves none of those things.

They have move away from what makes them successful. However Messi exerted the influence he has had over the team, apparently throwing his toys out of the pram they didn't sign Neymar etc is not ideal. I mean in a good organisation a player, however good would not get a manager sacked through saying he wants to leave.

However when the player is as good as Messi, and the manager has the mixed track record Koeman does, it makes the situation far more complicated.

100% no

Koeman seems to have misread this big time. I remember when he was here, and seemed to mention about how he was a Barca legend. He seems to think they've bought him in as he's a great manager and a club legend and is going to lay the law down early.

Messi probably has no idea who he is, and in honesty is not going to be impressed with his single winning goal in a CL, as he's done it multiple times. I can just imagine him thinking "eh what" and has just upped the anti. Koeman isn't dealing with Ross Barkley here.

It's kind of comforting to know, it's not just Everton that he behaved like a bit of arrogant buffoon at, but he's adopted the same approach at Barca.

Neymar would have been a terrible buy, but there is no reason given the money they were throwing around at the time that a sensible board would have instead bought Mbappe with the original Neymar money and refreshed the defence and midfield properly. They'd absolutely have gotten him as well, and made loads of money into the bargain.

Instead they had a board that spent quite a bit north of 100 million euro on Dembele, whose scored twelve times for them.
