Messi is going I think. He's done with having to be Messi. I think he wants to go somewhere and just be able to play football. For Barcelona and Argentina he has to do more than that.

I don't think that being Messi is escapable at, say, City.

I do think he'd have to shoulder less of the load, and I suspect that he knows he needs that as he ages. Having de Bruyne carrying some of the creative burden would improve his day-to-day experience dramatically. I'd imagine he'd also enjoy working with Aguero when healthy.

Even carrying the entire team at City would not be the same as having to do it for Barcelona.

If Man City sign messi it would be great for the premier league, I doubt it will be great for Man City’s pursuit of trophies. It would feel like the “Beckham on tour” period when he went a plied his trade around the world to increase his brand

Messi is still Messi to some extent. His level may have slipped a slight bit but that just means he isn't clearly the best in the world anymore.

I mean, that's just not right, no? And not having a go at you but Messi will NEVER go somewhere and not have to "be Messi". He's very arguably the greatest player of all time. He's always going to have that weight of "being Messi" on him, no?

“Being Messi” carries outrageous expectation. He’s expected to win La Liga and the Champions League and the World Cup no matter what pack of bang average teammates or moon-faced clown pants manager he’s given. And any time his teams come up short he gets a ridiculous amount of stick. That’s the part he is tired of.

"You are a leaker", Ronald Koeman told Riqui Puig in front of the entire dressing room ahead of the game with Elche for the Joan Gamper game back in September. The coach was sure that Riqui had leaked Koeman's decision for leaving him out of the squad list to the media. [el país]

Can'ttell if Koeman is mentally stable or??? This isn't how you treat young players
