Ronald Koeman Sacked

As I said, lack of a Striker cost him his job.

In the sense that Moshiri might not have been forced to sack him so soon, maybe. But there were many, many more issues with Koeman and the squad he built than could be solved with a striker.

Also MASSIVE LOLS at Koeman accidentally admitting that he spent £200m on a team that couldn't do anything apart from hoof it. Could he have any less of a clue?

First came the Premier League fixtures for the new campaign.

Second was the Blues' inability to sign an adequate replacement for £90million striker Romelu Lukaku.

“I looked at it and saw that five of our first nine games would be against clubs from last season’s top six: Chelsea, Tottenham, Man City, Man United and Arsenal.

“I looked at it again and I said to myself, 'Phew!'

“That is not going to be an easy run, in particular with a Europa League run at the same time and a really early start with all the players because of the European games. And most of all, because I had lost my striker Lukaku.’’

“That is not going to be an easy run, in particular with a Europa League run at the same time and a really early start with all the players b

“When we had to face Burnley at home, after a poor start, everyone expected an Everton victory. But I knew that Burnley had beaten Chelsea away, I knew they had drawn against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool. We lost 1-0. That is the Premier League for you,” he explained to Dutch football magazine VI .

“The strength of all the clubs in the Premier League makes it really difficult to climb out of a crisis, once you land in it

Did Koeman read those parts back before sanctioning the publication of this interview?

On the one hand he is admitting to a totally defeatist attitude when he read the fixture list.

Then in the other, informs us that one of the teams people expected us to beat, Burnley, had actually played more or less the same teams and done rather well against them :mad:

Well, at least he is describing the problems accurately. And yeah, it's worth noting that there is a line where the manager's influence ends and it's all down to the players. But that line is also one of blame for long-term decisions, which Koeman has had to take.

Anyway, good riddance. Koeman's faults were man management, tactical inconsistency and bad transfer dealings. We know that, now koff to the dutch national team and let Unsworth mess with your gordian knot

The carelessness with which he refers to his disgraceful splurge of Everton's money 'that's just what they pay in England', like it's toy town, or they're all crazy. I can't effing stand the beaut. We will be carrying this loss for twenty years

Nah, we got into Europe one year after getting utterly hosed at Sunderland in one of the most gutless displays I've ever seen. This can be turned round.

Get a proper focal point for this side and it will work.

I agree with regard to the team. But in transfers alone Everton have wasted at a conservative estimate around £100m pounds. That loss is not being felt at the moment but is going to bleed into all our future windows. We've got a significantly older tram, and have used up our money.

Oh definitely mate, we've wasted the Lukaku money. But then, we wasted the Stones money and still got into Europe. We wasted the Lescott money and still did ok. We wasted the Rooney money on (eventually) Neville, Davies and co. and still got fourth place ... you see what I'm getting at.

Yes. But look at the figure this time. A hundred million. Everton will need to get very very lucky for that not to hurt

But at the time, £24m for Lescott was mind-blowing. Huge sum of money. £50m for Stones, massive.

The TV revenue etc has scaled up so much that it £100m is just relative now.... as long as we stay up. Go down and it is oblivion.

If we'd have had Giroud in we would have won a few more games and we'd probably be sat around 7th at this point.

Even under the dire times of Martinez he at least had a great striker.

That failing in the window is what has cost him is job at the time that it did.

Koeman has the Stones Lukaku and Barkleymoney all under his belt. I'm not sure we did waste the Lescott money but even if we did it was his money to waste cos he bought him for a song. Koeman has come in and bought a bunch of stinkers we will never be able to sell on save in a fire sale.

I can't help but think you are both over simplifying things. Not buying a top striker (whether Giroud or somebody else) is, I agree, a massive error by the club. But the problems this season have been a lot more deep rooted than one position. In no particular order

* Not buying top striker

* Setting up too negatively

* No width

* No pace or urgency

* Too many defensive errors

* Playing players out of position

* Key players lacking form and confidence

* Complete lack of purpose in our tactics.

I haven't even mentioned the dressing room and player fall outs. But it is clear that there had been a distinct lack of commitment on the pitch, and heads have dropped far too easily in recent matches, both signs that players are doing it for their manager.

If we had Giroud in our set up, I really don't think our predicament would be that much different sadly.

Koemans tactics and attitude to setting up the team hadnt changed massively from last season. The difference was Lukaku being gone.

Not having a player in your team who can be relied on to regularly score goals is a massive issue and can easily cause morale to drop. Our squad with the exception of Lukaku is not weaker than the previous year.

If you look at just the Brighton and Burnley games, a goal scorer would have likely yielded another 4 points. That alone would have had us at least 11th, which is not a sackable position.
