Ronaldo (no not him)

Well, football all about opinion, isn't it? Plenty of people will disagree with me, but plenty will agree. I will always prefer players whose game is based around guile and vision - for me the greatest players I've seen are Maradona, Zidane and Romario.

No one will agree with you unless they are an idiot cos you just made something up out of your own head about his body changing lol

Elaborate on the first point por favor? Or do you mean in the 2006 WC (where ironically I think not a lot of players had -inho in their name lol ).

He also didn't do that but OK.

This has nothing to do with marketing btw, people just have eyes and saw greatness. So did other players, so did coaches. In fact, so did Zidane himself, several times.

Like I said it's all about opinions.

When I watch Ronaldo what I saw was a physical freak who could do amazing things due to his physique, but imo that type of player doesn't exert the same amount of influence into a team as a player who beat you by bamboozling and out thinking you.

In a way its similar to Mike Tyson's influence on his sport - a physical freak who dominated at an early age due to speed and physique that no one had ever seen before, but as his body changed and he didn't work on changing his style with it, he could never quite scale the heights of his early years

What a horrible analogy lol Also you didn't even confirm if that's what you're talking about lol

Ronaldo didn't rely solely on speed - it was something he had. Literally a video above your post showing great technique and him getting kicked to bits yet remaining on the ground, having assists, good vision, great first touch and passing, and obviously finishing. His career was roughly 18 years mate, not 3.

Of course Zidane was better as an orchestrator, as that was his position and role. By your logic (which is honestly Davek levels) - Beckham was better than Zidane then, as he could put a good cross in and beat his man without being the paciest player on the pitch. Almost if he's a winger and not a central/attacking mid lol Or saying "Yeah but Zizou was a worse goalscorer"... well, yeah, his job was to create, not to score, right?

Ronaldo created and scored, before the injury using absolutely ridiculous physique, then post-injury when he didn't have the pace - he used technique and movement, believe it or not. As I said - he was bordering on being an actual ball himself and still scoring and assisting in Brazil and, because people will say "farmer's league" - also 9 in 20 in his obesity seasons in Milan. You know, the home of defending or whatever.

In fact, if you don't believe what literally everyone in world football says (again, including Zidane) - there's a video above, again. lol

Zidane moved at about half the speed of Ronny but took on a whole team that including el Phenomenon, Rivaldo, Ronaldino and a whole host of other 'aldos when he was 34yo and made them look like a bunch of journeymen.

Personally I think Ronaldo was perhaps also the most hyped footballer there has ever been - it was an era where Nike were getting into Football, and the made the Brazilian team and their main striker their focal point - not obvious when you are getting marketed to.

He did score that great hattrick against United though, which was cool beans. Mind you, even Beckham got a couple of goals in that match coming off the bench, which is statistically much more impressive, and nobody's proclaiming him as the GOAT.

Football isn’t for you son

Stick to stocks and crypto

Fast forward to today and if even an 18 year old Ronaldo joined Everton in Jan...with the protection he'd receive these days he'd score 2-3 goals a game.

Andrei Kanchelskis would be hitting a goal a game as well.

Lets be honest the whole GOAT stuff is really boring with no correct answer, its seems to have drifted over from the UFC biffs who follow a sport 2 months old. A far more interesting question is who is your favourite player.

Strange take this. Anyone who has ever seen him play would know he had high levels of both those things.

He wasnt just Usain bolt with finishing ability, he was as technically gifted as anyone, but at a pace that hadnt been seen before in the game.

Plus he didnt get old, he got dreadful injuries that wrecked his career. Something those considered the best ever managed to avoid
