The problem with England is two months after qualifying, the media starts talking about winning it - there is nothing to justify that in the national team.

Disagree, theres been none of that this time. I'd say a degree of refreshing realism on the back of not making the Euros has actually kicked in. I've not heard a single pundit or newspaper claim we'd win it.

Depends what you mean about "we'd win it."

There is so many England ads on tele its silly. Notably, Terry Venables singing and a second world cup winning star fading in....this for me is an expectation of being able to win it.

I don't like all the ads with England players, I don't like the press conferences that inevitbly end up meaning nothing. Its all hype which causes pressure no???

I've got to agree with everything Danny said there. I know there is alot of frustration aimed at the players, and rightly so, but Capello has shown real ineptness, not only with his squad seletion, but also with his failiure to make this squad play as a team.

All of the players last night were pointing the finger at each other from early on. Instead of trying to pull together to make something work, they just seemed to get more and more wound up by each other. They are professionals an that's just not good enough on the world stage.

I can totally understand the frustration of the fans last night. To try and fail is one thing, to not give your all and try to point the finger elsewhere is something else.

And yes, the English media may hype up everything football, but it is from that, that these players get the 'hero-worship' status that they crave. I don't buy into the crap that we put too much pressure and expectation onto them. It's the media hype that has brought such big riches into this game and thus into their pockets, so they have got to learn to take the rough with the smooth. They certainly don't complain about it when they are sprawled aross the back pages being branded as a demi-god, or when their missus is trying to land another reality tv show.

]A reply straight out of the Davek Book of Spin[/B] - hoping you will have wound it up come September, for now feel free to continue with the previews, I'm sure you will take glee in ripping into anything English.
That's just provocative you beast. Dave hasn't even posted on this thread. I know we do the same with you on some threads but that's coz we're belters. What's your excuse?

Rooney was obviously frustrated because he cares. He was angry, probably with his own performance and that of the team. However, he needs to think before he opens his mouth. The previous poster was right, if Rooney had no talent and went there as a fan, he'd be booing from the sidelines himself. If you went to a restaurant and your steak was rank and smelt off, undercooked/overcooked, and you'd paid good money for it you'd be the first to complain. But then to have the cook come back to you and say your wrong and it smells and tastes great!!!! (n)
As for mention of heroes and pressure. These overpaid buffons need to don full body armour and walk out into a street in Helmand Province for a tour of duty. That's a HERO, that's PRESSURE!

well said mate.

He forgot to mention naming another thug as captain. Oh and the fact that if we pick fullbacks known to be better for their attacking than their defending, why don't they attack

That is something that has confused me for a while. -

"Defender Glen Johnson is good at attacking but not so good in defence...."

Now you will have to bear with me here, but surely sound logic suggests he is perhaps playing in the wrong position???

I have been drinking crazy juice all day though...what do i know...

You've too much hatred Matt.

Take a step back, and listen to this;

Rooney, I dislike him. Always will. That I'm sure of because I'm not fickle. I have my reasons and it's not just because he left, that was always an inevitablity, it was his timing, the manner and how he conducted himself since. He not only burnt bridges, he took a dump on where it once was. But thats another story.

In this instance, he has let out frustration. If every one of those players had his desire to win, and shared his frustration - we'd have snotted Algeria. The problem is, we don't.

[*]We have a keeper who has just openly admitted he doesn't get along with any one in the England camp.
...

I agreed with every other post that Danny mentioned but I have to take issue with this one. That's not Green's fault. If you were on the squad who would you be friends with? OK James is a good guy and so is by all appearances Hart is but they play the same position. Plus Capello sent home only normal human being on the squad for Steven Warnock. So how about the guy who will try to shag your wife who was the freaking captain. Or how about the guy who's already had his ghostwriter pen Chapter 3: While I was fantastic AND scored a goal against USA our keeper should have never been here. You want to be friends with that guy, on and BTW HE'S YOUR CAPTAIN!

Plus is it me or isn't it that a captian's job to not think about yourself and you know recongize that so that you could make him feel like a member of the squad?? Or is the captain's armband just something John Terry wanted so badly to hold on to because losing it would be a disaster for his revenue stream.

Are you continuing to insult Rooney as by means of gaining attention, or is it just incase members didn't realise you disliked him after the first few insults? Some of us like the lad you bad whopper.:)
