Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

I agree , he was poorly managed whilst he was here. I know you will disagree but Martinez set his career back massively in my opinion. He never got the focus to develop, he was sent out to be Ross Barkley every week which was fine in the first season but each year proved Ross Barkley was a one dimensional player who was easily sussed out by the better players in the league.
They was his best years - and funnily enough half a season under Koeman. But he needs to be given that license to play that way at Chelsea. He never will because he isn;t one of the acknowledged superstars.

He's falling between two stools: free role at Everton, but the team cant afford to indulge that; the team are there to indulge that at Chelsea, but he'll never be given that license.

As said: he'll end up with a winners medal before any of our players see one.

But he wasn't bought to loan out. Anyone doubting his talent just isn't paying attention.

Getting a winners medal doesn't say a great deal about a player. Jack Rodwell has one and Phil Neville won 6 PL medals, 3 FA Cup medals and a CL winners medal.

Ross is a bit of a cabbage, but tbf to the lad he got knocked from pillar to post with the managerial personalities through our dugout. Tough for any young player to develop in that regime, let along someone as weak as Ross.

Moyes wasn't great with him IMO, at least publically - he would no doubt argue he gave him his start but he never trusted him for ages IIRC. Remember him starting against Tottenham away, playing out wide and not really getting into the game. Misplaced a long pass and Moyes went mad, hooked him off at half time. He did then give him a start against someone good (was it the RS or City?), Ross showed some class and things grew from there, but it could have gone either way for him under Moyes.

That is for any young player under Moyes to be fair. We are the club that had mustafi and dier here and did nothing with them.

Moyes only played young players when he had to, not out of choice over the course of 11 years. That's why players like Roswell never got a position to make his own, or anichibe was a right wingers despite not having any traits of one.

That's my take on it anyway

I don’t see what Martinez did wrong with him.

He trusted him and made him an automatic starter and gave him freedom to roam.

He played his best football, by a long shot, under Bobby.

And things might have turned out better for all concerned if Ross had not picked up the injury which kept him out of nearly the first half the 14/15 season.

If anyone screwed him up it was Koeman.

Though I suspect agents chirping into his ear had as much to do with it as owt else.

Martinez did let him develop and he grew hugely in confidence, but like everything Bobby the Bullshitter is involved with - the foundations were laid in sand. He'd actually stagnated quite badly at the end of Martinez' time (along with everyone else it has to be said) - second half of the 15/16 season he looked disinterested and fat. He actually did pretty well under Koeman for a time, looked miles sharper, but it was clear he wasn't happy with being told what was what.

All three managers were culpable in different ways. Moyes too afraid to play him, Martinez too indulgent, Koeman too harsh. If someone has limited confidence and intelligence you need to show faith, give precise instructions and be prepared to put an arm round their shoulder. On the flip side of this perhaps Barkley should have manned up a bit!!

Free role to Ross Barkley? Hahaha that’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever read.

He’s tacticaly inept, lacks football inteligence, making weird runs and his positioning and decision making are awful and you want to give him a free role? lol

Oh boy. You are utterly clueless. He played his best football under RM in a free role.
