If he came back here he'd feel confident enough to dominate proceedings more. He's won a medal or two. Ancelotti would get the best out of him.

The notion that he hardly ever had extensive periods of good form is for the birds.

We all know by now how you get the best from Barkley: hand him little responsibility to get behind the ball and chase around, and set him the task of receiving a pass on the half way line and get the opposition peddling backwards toward their own goal. If we played Gomes with Barkley there would be a diversification in how Everton attack. ATM we are thoroughly predictable pinging balls into the box from out wide. Overly reliant on it.

We had our best attacking football since the 80s when Barkley, Lukaku and Mirallas were taking the game to our opponents. An attack with Richarlison, DCL and Barkley, supplied by Gomes would frighten the very best in this league.

I'm assuming that Everton do their job and retain him. Admittedly a long shot. DCL, not good enough on his own to play upfront would benefit by those two alongside him in an attacking three.
