Pretty much.

When you’ve got generational talent like Sancho, Sterling, Kane etc... and you’re playing dross like Pickford, Declan Rice etc... then leaving out players like Barnes who could make a difference, yet you’re struggling against Denmark, And can’t get close to Belgium in 3 of 4 games against them, says it all.

The problem is, is that no one is a quality manager to replace him.

Needed runners last night to get in behind their back 4, too much ball to feet, was and is tedious to watch England for some years now.

Barkley professionalism will always be questioned, that's just him and a generation too late for getting away with being "daft as a brush".

And no-one doubts his ability to play nice attacking football, just he can disappear and be a liability just as much, small margins in football these days...

Yeah right. Crap like Winks gets a game, but Barkley doesn't, despite excellent form at Villa. The upside is far higher than potential negatives.

Antonio is one of the best scorers in the league at the moment and doesn't get a sniff (albeit he is injured, but he was in great form and overlooked before.) Southgate is hopeless.

Barkley reminds me a bit of Gazza, or Cantona - if you took them in their primes and parachuted them into 2020 prem football. They might still be pretty good, because class is class, but they wouldn't be all that influential because slow is slow.
