Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

If he wasn't too afraid to return to the city I would have him back on a free. On his day he is the type of midfielder who can get 8-12 goals in a season which is what we need. However as he was an absolute disgrace the way he left I kind of hope he ends up in league 1 getting kicked in the air every week. He had the potential to be a top drawer player but he blew it and only has himself and them around him to blame.

The problem is with that is he was decent back then. Chelsea wouldn't have gone in for him if he wasn't international class would they?

I think he just struggled leaving Everton, he had another minor upward blip at Villa where he looked the part (see the 7-2 game for instance) but he obviously isn't 100% happy with something in his life or fallen out of love with football. This happens.

I agree many saw a lot of potential there. He wasn't awful, I didn't think he was quite good enough for Chelsea then (as much as I hate to phrase it that way as if he was good enough for us but not them). I just thought he was an average premier league player.

Not terrible just not as good as many even then prevailing wisdom lead most to believe.

We all could see it would fail at Chelsea, leaving to be a little fish in a big pond where you basically become disposable if you have a few bad games was always going to prove to be too difficult.

But don't doubt that the instinctive Ross was a very good player. The coaching staff here (that also had Rooney remember) waxed lyrical about him and his finishing, but he lacked Wayne's top two inches from a football standpoint. We hoped with coaching he would get better but he seemed to regress and when he had options to choose he invariably lost the ball because his cpu froze.

Remember when the media where all loving him and they did that interview with him when he was cooking pasta for some reason. The guy interviewing was saying how exciting it was for his career getting his big move and talked about getting his Everton tattoos removed, now look at him.

He is still living a dream, getting paid mega bucks to have a kick about with no pressure but he should always wonder what could have been.
