Ross Barkley

It's taking the piss playing him out wide. It's a Moyes-like call or one of those duffer managers in the Ch'ship he went on loan to.

He's an attacking central midfielder. Play him there and he'll get you the performances he did last season.

Martinez is being an utter tool playing Naismith ahead of him in that position.

He wants to play CM, Davek.

Barkley, sitting alongside Martínez, appeared embarrassed by the eulogy and caused his manager’s eyebrows to rise by insisting one of his aims for next season is to play more games in central midfield, one department where Everton are well stocked following the summer signings of Gareth Barry and Muhamed Besic.

Not he won't get his way until he has proved himself to Bobby.

"Playing in the deeper role is different. You need to reduce what you do on the ball, put more work off the ball.

Thats absolutely spot on, Ross is an exciting player but not quite capable of turning a game on its head in the fashion we're lead to believe, I'm not sure Roberto knows what to do with Ross at the moment. Now Naismith is injured i guess he will go into that role more, its down to him to prove it to him.

Out wide is defo not the way to go! I know he and Naismith were probably told to interchange positions in play, but Barkley should be tasked with what he was last season: centre stage bossing games. Naismith is just a friggin' nuisance getting in the way.

As far as a more withdrawn role is concerned: yes, I think he can do that, and would be doing that under other managers who dont fixate about having the belt and braces approach of deploying two predominantly holding midfielders.

Well said, will be interesting to see what RM does when pienaar is back, will he keep him on the bench and still insist on Naismith in the middle and ross out wide (lol) or will he have the balls to drop the Scottish messi

I think Ross will get dropped unless we're playing one of the bigger teams and playing more on the counter.

It's actually what he liked doing last year although Osman was the player he often choose instead.

Likewise Deulofeu never played the bigger games as he was used mainly as a weapon against teams that parked the bus.

For that reason they rarely played together which frustrated the hell out of me except ofcourse at Newcastly away where we won 3-0.

Not sure I understand the logic but he definitely has selection patterns.

I think two thinks are hampering Ross this season. He is still coming to terms with his match fitness I feel after missing the first 2 months of the season and secondly he is wasted being played out wide. Next week Roberto can we see this:
Lukaku
Piennar. Barkley. Miralles

There is no doubt in my mind baines plays better with piennar and Coleman with miralles. Ross should play behind lukaku.

Shouldn't be playing on current form, but the lad is out of position which isnt helping.

Isn't helping??

I'd say it's severely affecting his performances!!

Barkley and naismith should not play together. It's one or the other who plays in that No.10 role. We miss sooooo much Ross's ability to drive at teams thru the center like he did last season. God I miss seeing it too!!

For the love of God Moyes (Erm I mean Bobby) STOP playing one of our most dangerous players out of posistion!!!!

I find that he doesn't get the ball as much as he should. I'd love to see him demand the ball because when he has it he scares the life out of the opposition.

Only if he's receiving the ball in the right posistions. Which stuck out wide he's not and he'd struggle to get in a championship side "Oh hang on"...

I think he's struggling for confidence and he's not yet fully fit. He seems a touch off the pace and his 1st touch isn't quite there. He took the game by the scruff of the neck at times last season.

Barkley the player when his confidence is low is a million miles away from Barkley the player when his confidence is soaring. I would be interested to see whether a 3-4-2-1 set up would allow us to play Barkley and Naismith off Lukaku/Eto'o, but that of course would require three fit centre-backs so is a complete non-starter for the foreseeable.

Shearer said they're due to talk about diving later on, obviously got Barkley in mind. After Roy being a knob the other day I hardly think the lad needs lynching on TV again.

Funny how Suarez's dives never took MOTDs main focus.
