Everton class - a little more than endeavour. Maybe it's a conceit, but Naismith is a no frills, meat and potatoes player. He just hasn't got what it takes to hold down a place even now in the pomp of his career and in an Everton team struggling to stamp itself on the season.

He's played yes, but holding down a particular place is not within his grasp - as he's a very niche player with a manager who wont set up in that fashion. He's been in most of the first elevens this season. Only injury has prevented him from playing today. So how hasn't he been able to hold down a place? Maybe that's exactly what we need, a 'meat and potatoes' player. 'Not Everton class' is just another sly dig from yourself.
Archetypal everton players, the last truely great everton team 1984/85, had adrian heath and peter reid both similar players to naismith and carsleyHe's played yes, but holding down a particular place is not within his grasp - as he's a very niche player with a manager who wont set up in that fashion.
I'm not against meat and potaoes players. The likes of Lee Carsley were great additions. But they're not archetypal Everton players. They're atypical. That's what I meant.
Eto'o shouldn't be any were near the side after today's performance.I'd drop him for Wednesday.

I'm not sure Martinez knows how to use him properly. Might be time for him to start playing deeper. Ideally he'd be in the middle of a 4-3-3.
I did. I really dont understand the stampede to describe that as a poor display. Yes, he got caught on the ball. But that was because he was practically the only one trying to open up a very energetic Spurs team that doubled up on Everton players - which necessitated taking two on at a time. He lost the ball a few times, he got by that pressing very well on a lot of occasions though.
And the fact he played wide for 60 minutes is where most of the mistakes game from. When he moved into the middle they swarmed around him, and more time than not he picked a pass out. I mean, that through ball to Coleman came from him picking it up on the edge of the box, dodging about 5 players and tackles and sliding it through.
He oozes class and threat. Yet he's been shoehorned in.
I thought Martinez was better than that. Especially today when he had 3 wingers ready to play in McGeady, Pienaar, and Mirallas.
