Ross Barkley

The problem is Ross is not a wide player, play him behind Lukaku or don't play him. That's half the problem this season, Roberto is playing players out of position and it shows in the teams performance. Either play Ross or play Naismith, you can't play them in the same team.

No point playing Ross as a 10 in a possession team. It could work like Gerrard and Torres did under Rafael because they played on the break. The game has to be in front of Ross. I thought Roberto had picked up on that after his performance against QPR in the deeper role, then the next game he was on the wing to accomodate Barry. Disgraceful.

He wasn't on the wing to accommodate Barry (the scape goat) it was like all season...to accommodate Naismith!!

Naismith was wide and Barry central against West Brom if I'm not mistaken... if it wasn't that game it was one of the recent ones.

I don't buy any of the excuses for Barkley, we don't even use "wide" players in the traditional sense since all of our width comes from the full-backs anyways.

He's either in very bad form or is showing himself to be a limited player, but I don't believe we can point to mismanagement for his struggles.

I completely agree with you: And the fact that whenever Barkley is on the wing he quickly swings central and seems to forget we have Coleman and Baines. When we don't play a balanced team with 2 wingers, Baines and Coleman don't seem to get forward as much/are less effective going forward.
As soon as Osman is fit Barkley should be dropped, he has been too much of a passenger this season and constantly gets defended with the: "He's young, had an injury, played out of position, etc":
Maybe I'm being harsh but Naismith had a long term injury before he arrived with us at an older age. Barkley is 21 (Rooney was better and younger to the people that seem to think Barkley is a "different class", and when he has been played behind the striker he seems naive and makes the wrong choices; although this could be to increased pressure from the crowd?

I just don't think he is anywhere near world class and gets so much protection from criticism, it is unreal; if Osman had been playing as Barkley this season he would have been booed to shreds.

In short: we miss Osman and Pienaar.

Yep your right. Against WBA naismith went wide and ross central. What do you get then? A piss poor inafective naismith!

So of course it's missmanagement. He's being playing players out of posistion all season. And last season we definately HAD wingers, not a reliance on just FB's giving the width....

There a several reasons why Ross isn't setting the place alight currently. But remember he's a talented blue in only his second season of top level football. Turning on him already as many are doing is disgusting tbh. Get behind the kid ffs....

Yes your right we miss osman & pienaar
Jesus
Had 10yrs of osman running around midfield yes he's a clever neat and tidy footballer but he's also very weak and slow and in and the big games and went it mattered he went missing
Who remembers the 2009 cup final spent most of the game on his on box defending against Cole
He gets bullied against quality opposition
Barkley has flaws and needs to improve
But already in his fledgling career
Has stood out in a derby at arsenal and v Man City against yaya who was being hailed as the best midfielder in Europe last year
As for pienaar hope I never see him in and Everton kit again
He like osman is weak as piss slow and scores about 2 goals a season
He spent most of last season on his backside
I don't care him and baines play a few nice one twos
The guy is finished
And the two of them have been part of and Everton team that have won [Poor language removed] all and bottled nearly every big
Some people on this site don't derserve a player like Barkley
Give the kid a break Ffs

Barkley may be able to show it once every ten games, but he is our most inconsistent player; he needs dropping.

Are we STILL going on about Barkley on the wing, he played in the middle the other week and was still dreadful. At what point are we blaming him instead of his position?

Yeah, lets drop Barkley and play Osman.

I watched the Bristol West Ham match (should have been us) and city had a lad who played a lot like Osman, lots of effort but not too much end product. However, he was the one making them tick, buzzing around the MF and trying to distribute the ball. At the moment we need OSman more than we need Ross.
Sad to say.
