Mate of mine went the match. Liked him, always wanted the ball and was the only one wanting to create something.

Wednesday fans are a little kopitish to be fair, they want Jones out now after 7 games in. They want promotion... So there's mega kneejerk going on

Generally good but like I said it seems he was playing almost as a deep-lying playmaker. The Owls fans seem to think that's the wrong place for him and I'm inclined to agree.

Good to see he had a bit of confidence about him though. I was worried he lacked it but you have to have balls to step up and take a pen as an 18 year old newbie.

I think he's got the range of passing to play there. Maybe that's where Moyes wants him to get experience, we certainly have space in our team for a player in that role.

Nice to see comments like this:

Did he give the ball away today?

Even once?

The ball retention, even when under intense pressure, is remarkable for an 18 year old kid.

OMG OMG OMG

SIGN HIM UP MOIST

"Cut that shoite out right now Barkley!"

Do you know what lads... We all think Barkley is a ACM No.10 type but has he played there for us, England or Wednesday? The answer is No...

I actually think moyes see's him as a No.8. Taking the role Osman is playing currently, that's where moyes seems to play him.

Just saying like...

Barkley played behind the striker for England in the second half vs Greece and was fantastic. I still think this will be his position. Also Wednesday play what looks like a rigid 442 which doesn't leave much room for driving forwards from the centre mids.

I agree. With the right coaching there's no reason why he can't become a complete box to box midfielder.

I don't think he did mate. He was playing on the left with freedom to come inside. Could be wrong like.
Only problem I see with the box to box role is he doesn't seem to pick up runners or mark at all, although that could just be an age and development thing?

As you say, surely those things can be learned. Doubt Lee Carsley was much good at that stuff at 18.
