Ross Barkley

Ross has the potential to be a fantastic footballer if he improves some of his mental attributes, so that they equate to his physical abilities.

As I've said on numerous occasions, he's far from the finished articled. Bags and bags of potential, but this season has been underwhelming.

Regardless of how much people may or may not offer, we should be focusing upon keeping hold of Ross and attempting to refine those skills.

If he does become the player that we all think he can be, then superb. He has the potential to contribute to the fortunate of the club in a huge way.

If he doesn't, which is still a possibility, then in the future there will still be significant value in him to help refine the squad.

Considering the option of selling him now just stinks of negativity, as if he's already not good enough. Let's wait and see aye...

My gripe is that having been in the club's coaching system for over 10 years he's still not been properly coached so as to significantly improve his obvious deficiencies, in decision making particularly.

Any manager with any sense will see the talent he has and if they have anything about themselves, will be confident that they can make him play at his best, something our current manager isnt doing, at his best hes an extremely talented boy and in todays over inflated market, the fact that hes English, should be able to attract bids in excess of 50m, based on his vast potential.

The injury he suffered at the start of the season was a hammer blow, coupled with the long term injury he suffered as a young un, its stunted his progress a little and hes probably 18months away from where he should be, but ive seen enough to see that he has a very bright future, lets hope its with us.
£50 million would value him as one of the best players in the world. He might have the potential to be but he's certainly nowhere near that yet. He wouldn't even be close to the top 100. For every player that has shown great potential as a youngster and made it to be one of the best players in the world there are hundreds that didn't.

Is DI Maria the best in the world? LOL no, context Is everythung when comparing Stats and More staTs
it becomes really difficult for students to progress no matter how hard it is

Prior to joining United he was one of the top players in the world, hence why madrid fans and players were upset when he left and why he cost so much money. One poor season adapting to English football doesn't mean he's suddenly crap, he was awesome at Madrid.

This is really getting on my nerves.

If you want to take the strongest XI for the Under-21s I have no problem with that at all, Southgate. But this means you have to take everyone. Sterling, Barkley, Kane, etc. You can't just drop Sterling and Kane because they're "past that stage" because as soon as you call any player up to the main squad they're past that stage. You want the strongest team possible? Take it. Otherwise, leave the players who don't want to go.

He was on talksport yesterday and he actually made some good points with regards to the likes of Barkley etc. Southgate said that he wouldn't want to call back anyone who hasn't been a part of the current group of players in the U'21 squad.

He was asked about Sterling and he said he's an established senior International now so wouldn't really expect him to play, but when asked about Kane said he has been a part of the U'21 group and still is.

I don't think Ross has played for the 21's since August 2013, so I doubt he'd be classed as one of the current group, so won't be going to the tournament unless they change their mind.

I think what Southgate says makes sense, you could see on Monday that they have a good mentality as a group.

You can't help but laugh at all the comments from England fans in the papers today, gunning him down and criticising him massively... all because he was once compared to gazza and they seemingly expect him to be a world beater.

I truly hate the mentality of english football fans, they post comments criticising the media for overhyping players and yet behave just as abhorrently by doing the complete opposite and writing and slagging off young talents before their career has properly got started.

Does my head in so much

Can't win with the English media with Everton players on England duty. Barkley is settled at Everton and has made no indication about moving, same for John Stones. Yet if they have a good game for England its 'Man City target Barkley shows top clubs what he's capable of'. If he has an average game 'Everton youngster flops and told he must improve from the bench by Rooney'. Meanwhile Sterling and Henderson who have both done nothing but stink the gaffe out for England and have not signed new contracts with Liverpool get 'Kop Stars pick of England bunch'. The whole of football media is a mouthpiece with 50% controlling stakes for Liverpool and United.

With regard to the under 21s there'll be a whole load of unspoken reasons why some players will be allowed a break. Agents for the likes of Sterling and now Kane won't want to see their brands taking a step backwards. They're too big a name for the under 21s now. Honest guys who just want to play like Ross and Stones who could actually do with a break will get dragged in by the baying media into a group of players where they'll be a class above all of them.

Guarantee now that Sterling, Wilshere, Ox, Kane, Chambers, Shaw etc. will not be at the tournament.

He was considered one of the best wingers in the world when they bought him, yes.

Every person with a brain cell knows to have any chance in the Euros the midfield should be Barkley Wilshere and one other (Carrick if still at a good level). Instead like we have at every other tournament, an England manager who is repulsed by flair will field the likes of Henderson Milner Delph Jones and whichever new Liverpool player has played more than 5 games in the PL that season.

We're rubbish at international football because we leave all the footballers on the bench or at home. To think in all those years Scholes and Carrick were caning the league they were being left out of the squad for the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Milner, Jenas. Embarrassing.
Did you just group Lampard and Gerrard with Milner, Jenas & Barry? Wow.

And the top clubs will have their players rested for next season, and we'll have burnt out players making mistakes at the back and doing nothing going forward for the first half of the season.

My concern with Barkley is this....he has the ability to make it, we can all see that, but will he make his full potential at Everton with this manager/coaching staff/teammates? I'm not so sure. To be world class you have to play with other top players. Next season will show us anyway, i just hope i'm wrong

More in terms of style of play. Wouldn't class any of them as natural controlling international footballers. Obviously they vary in ability massively. You can lump Shelvey and Cleverley in there as well. Players who can look very good(some of them) strolling around in the prem surrounded by other players in their favourite format. As soon as they're up against a quality opposition they can't hold their own. Gerrard and Lampard were selected on their names and goal scoring and because they were seen as athletic and powerful. Scholes and Carrick were the lynchpins of title winning teams yet couldn't get a look in. Two of our most natural passers of the ball completely overlooked.

Now we haven't got any of these players. We do have creativity though in Barkley and Wilshere. They'll be overlooked though for yard dogs like Henderson.

I don't think you can coach someone in decision making. This is something you either learn through experience...or don't.
