Ross Barkley

Tbf Osman Gibson and mirallas were all giving the ball away and conceding possession more than ever yesterday. That has to be down to the quality of the opposistion. So Barkley was playing his first game of the season out of posistion under difficult circumstances... Just think its a good sign that moyes trusted using him from the off.

Yeah, everyone lost posession easily. Barkley did it the most but he's also the least expereinced and wasn't sure of his position.

It can't be easy to play out of position, on your weaker foot, and with Moyes just a few yards away continually shouting you your instructions every second of the game. That said, Barkley disappointed me a bit. He didn't look sharp and dallied too long on a number of occasions. Maybe because of instructions, but he was never looking to do anything incisive. As The Executioners Blog reports, the very last pass he played, which was a dreadful one that gave Spurs possession, was a backward pass when he had more forward options available. I hope he's not had his instinctive tendencies to go forward knocked out of him.

He could be the new Joe Xavi Allen.

Man people are going to defend Barkley just because of how much everyone wants him to be the next big thing for us, but he was shocking , everytime he tried to play a pass backwards it was either too weak and got intercepted or overhit to a spurs player. He had one good piece of control which he then ****ed up a pass back with, didn't see a single thing that he should be given another game for a while.

He seems to make the wrong decision. He got the skill to make it but need to sort out his head in this league. He seems to slow in making his mind up, this could be down to nervous.

I agree. I was as eager as anyone else for him to be given a shot, but he looked badly out of his depth. I'd be happy for him to get a run of games soon, but preferably not when they're as important as our next few.

Or, dare I say it, maybe he just doesn't have a quick footballing brain. Quite frankly, we could have brought Gazza down from the stands yesterday and he would have done a better job as Barkley was terrible. I watched the game on TV with my dad (also an Evertonian and now in his late 70s) and even he was saying after about five minutes that Barkley should be taken off, Osman drop back and Jelavic go up front with Victor.

He played out of position on his first start for two years; if anything, people want to criticise him every chance they get for absolutely everything.

I thought Moyes was bold to play Ross yesterday. It didn't work out too well but he was up against good quality opposition. I think another loan spell would do him good - but only to the right club. Seamus Coleman went to Blackpool, who played a style of football that was perfect for him and he came back a much improved player. I don't think the same has been true for Barkley. If he goes out on loan again it should be to a club who will bring him on - not just to give him any experience of playing regularly. In the Championship teams like Burnley, Blackpool, Palace, Brighton all play in a way where I think he could thrive. Sheff Weds and Leeds were poor choices for him imo and may have set him back in his development.
I don't know how much thought clubs give to loans but sending a player to any team that wants him seems a pointless exercise unless he is going to develop there in the way you want him to.
