Defo out of his depth with the big boys...

Haha! That put a massive smile on my face - the lad is sheer class. All the more reason why I will be furious if he doesn't start tomorrow.

Well, Gerrard, Rooney, lamps.... That's how it's done!!

Pls Ross shoooot more!!

He's really ****ing class ain't he. Imagine with another 6 months of football behind him.

If suggesting that claims about Barkley becoming world class are premature is now considered "slating" him, then that goes some way towards illustrating just how detached from reality English football fans are getting. The same 'pros' that were saying he'd be the next Gascoigne were making the same predictions about Ravel Morrison a week later, and if Will Hughes signs for Liverpool we'll no doubt here the same again. It's a joke. Barkley will definitely be England-standard, but the gulf between that and world class has been getting wider for quite a while now.

I think this post shows lack of football knowledge. Barkley is a cut above the rest. He has the potential to be world class. If you can't see that then you are blind. It's not premature it's called being able to see a player. He sticks out and that's that.

.....not so sure about that, Roydo. I admit to taking a bit of convincing on Barkley, but the strike against Norwich was so special that it won me over.

Mate, I dont care what level someone has played at, but an ex pro will see more, or less for that matter, in a player than a layman. In general that is.

It's not that I can't see what you see, it's that you're not putting it into the proper context. He is not a cut above the likes of Morrison and Hughes at England youth level, let alone some of the international talent around. There are a hundred lads out there with Barkley's talent, and as someone who has followed youth football as best he can for quite some time, I can assure you that making claims about who is going to be world class is absolutely futile. He may well become world class, he has the potential, but the certainty of the hype machine is laughable.
