Or you could reject the small minded notions of misplaced nationalism Neil and have the human decency to reject Steven Gerrard winning things to make you happy?

I am with you, Chico.

If by some chance England were to win the World Cup with Slipper of the Kop as skipper and three or four of his fellows in the team then the cult would claim it as their victory and they would make those Hammers fans who have claimed the 1966 WC as their own this past half century seem like mutes.

The England fans on here should be careful what they wish for.

There is a reason most England fans are supporters of teams like Rochdale, Luton, Southend, Brentford, Wallsall etc.

Those guys can quite happily wish the England players well at club level because it doesn't affect their day to day football lives.

Those guys will righteously fret about Slipper's state of mind after Demba Ba-gate.

But fans of the major clubs hate him, hate his club and love the fact he lost them the league.

People can't just go from hating the players of the RS, Chelsea, Mancs, Arsenal, even EFC every week to suddenly idolising them when a flag is waved and an arcane anthem is played.

This is why I find the whole concept of international football paradoxical to fans of clubs like ours.

Particularly in light of the fact our great white hope might be having his head filled with crap by some Billy Big Boots from Spurs or Chelsea earning twice what he does at the moment.

No, I shall stick a few quid on Argentina or Germany or someone and that will be my team during the World Cup.

I totally agree with the last bit mate xx

I'm from England.

I support England.

Gerrard captains them, which isn't ideal. But I don't support him do I?

Obviously.

Hypothetical question.

And one which I hope is rhetorical among Everton fans.

England come up against the USA and Tim Howard and Slipper crash into each other in the penalty box.

One suffers a broken leg which will mean him missing a huge chunk of next season.

Which one do you hope will get up and walk away unscathed?

:)

It's a no brainer.

Which is why the supporting of England is better left to fans of Shrewsbury Town :pint2:

Well Kasper still hasn't signed a new deal at Leicester so...

Can't someone root for England AND against Gerrard (and Sterling and Sturridge, etc.)? That's what I'd do if I were from England. I'll be doing that regardless through June and July.
