I have been telling people that for years. Ferguson ruined Rooneys potential. Completely different player to when he first broke through for us.

They do have to be mindful of FFP though, and City are limited to a 50 million net spend this summer. I just can't see anyone paying what he would cost, not because they don't rate him, but because they can't really afford to spend that on him right now. He's probably got one of the highest valuations in football right now. I think United have the purchasing power to buy him, but they aren't going to spend 50 million on another number 10 from Everton, they urgently need to strengthen other areas of the pitch.

It amuses me that you think we would sell for only 50m.

Damn sure if somebody offered a number starting with 3 good ole Bill would sell ASAP.

This is the man that sold the highest rated teenager in the world for 25m plus add ons.
 
Quite a bit has changed since we sold Rooney. Southampton are knocking back 27 million pound bids for a left back. Anyone who wants to sign Barkley is going to have to come up with some serious dollar. 30 million pound bids aren't going to cut it. We're in a far more stable financial position than when we sold Rooney as well. We don't need to sell him, and I can't see him pushing for a move. He will stay at Everton this summer.

Everyone does have a price but I think Barkley would go for more than 30 million. When you have young English left backs going for 30 million, I think the most exciting young player in the country would cost a fair bit more.
 
We're far, far better off financially than we were when we sold Rooney. Barkley wont be sold for less than £40m ffs. Especially if Luke Shaw, a LB, who doesnt score or assist is going to United for £30m.
