Ross Barkley

As I've just said, what's wrong about it is doing it in public. And no, I don't buy the "all of a sudden and we'll panic" argument - not one bit. If we sold Barkley, then at that point explained he refused a contract over three months beforehand, then it's common sense why we sold him. But the difference would be that we hadn't embarrassed the player for a month before he left and put him in a corner, turning the fans against him.

Those saying Koeman hasn't villified him? Look at this thread - "call yourself an Evertonian?", "a home grown superstar doing this?", "bang out of order" and so on - all because Koeman has publicised this nonsense when the player is under contract and just getting on with his job.

Who's to say he doesn't want to play for us? You don't know that. Barkley hasn't said it, his agent hasn't said it - all you're going on is Koeman's big trap, and that's the point; if Koeman had shut up and been professional, this thread doesn't have the above content.

How do you know that Barkley and his agent aren't simply waiting for the season to end to discuss a new deal? He signed in July in 2014 - https://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jul/29/ross-barkley-everton-new-contract-manchester-united - maybe his policy, like a professional and like I'd do it, is that he want to concentrate on football when there's still football to be played?

But no - because of one person alone - Ronald Koeman - Barkley is now a Judas who, even if he signs a new contract, will be perceived as doing so as a mercenary.

Bang out of line from Koeman, the whole thing.

I think your blowing this way out of proportion mate.

Spot on Ross wants to play for us more than koeman Wants to manage us

[QUOTE="McBain, post: 5465471, member: 19]You want to play for the club, sign a deal. You don't? It's the Highway for you Pal.

Good thing he's a hypocrite and hasnt applied this logic to Lukaku.

"we only want players who want to be here"

2 minutes later in the interview

"We want to keep rom at the club"

Links please.

Well if that's the case don't you think a bit of courtesy should be shown, as in telling the club that he'll discuss it after the season is finished rather than just keeping quiet.

Seems to be that everyone is being kept in the dark and awaiting a decision, something that Koeman clearly doesn't want dragging out over the summer.

It's really that hard to say: you know what boss, I'll sit and down and thrash this out after the last game

does it count as a "chance created" every time he keeps ignores the players in space in front of him, and instead, head down, smashes it well over the bar? i'd rather there were less of those.

i like Ross, and there is clear potential there, but his decision-making is still poor. he just will not look up and pass the ball. he's forever trying to recreate that Newcastle goal.

the longer it continues, the less likely it is to improve.

You know what should happen if the club aren't happy with Barkley and his agent's approach on this mate?

Sell him. That simple - withdraw the contract and sell him. He's an asset that is deemed disposable and they're a business. If they aren't prepared to discuss beyond a certain date, sell the player.

Just don't drag it out in public through one ego in press conferences when there's literally zero benefit to doing so. That's actually the issue I have with the whole thing - not losing Barkley, but the woeful lack of professionalism from the club yet again.

For those saying "Koeman just says it as it is" - OK then, I look forward to you explaining when he's asked about transfer targets in the summer and he refuses to answer the question. He's such a straight shooter about every subject after all.

Koeman done it all to put pressure on him to sign it ! simple ! I wouldn't get upset about it !

"If you offer the player a good contract, it means we want him to stay here. If we don't want the player to stay longer, we don't offer him a new contract,"

"No, because it is a long time he has been thinking about his future.

"I am not worried because I like to work with players who like to stay.

"We will go on and we're looking for players in that position. If he stays there will be more competition for him next season."

SELL HIM

But that's the issue I have - it is unprofessional and counter-productive. It won't work.

I put myself in Barkley's shoes. If it were me, even if I was about to sign the contract the next day and I'd had seen that Koeman presser the other week setting the deadline, I'd about turn in an instant and put down the pen.

Great! Then do so - sell the asset. No problem with doing so from me whatsoever.

Just do it professionally instead of through this unprofessional nonsense.

Not claims. Facts.

We know he wants to keep rom despite rom making it clear he wants to leave and we also know that he has said he only wants players who want to play for Everton.

...

Rom is a God. Ross is all huff and no puff.
