Ross Barkley

I'm not sure he has? It's a job and he hires an agent to get him the best deal. If, I dunno, Funes Mori did the same thing, nobody would bat an eyelid - where Ross was born shouldn't make a difference.

I'm an Everton fan, but if the club asked me to pay 50% more for a season ticket to prove how much of a "boss blue" I am, I'd tell them to do one. Same with Barkley - why shouldn't he maximise his compensation for his services at the club?

There's no chance he's getting a better wage at another club.

He gets the wage, and treatment he does at Everton because of where he was born.

I agree completely. We're just looking at it from two different ways to come to the same conclusion.

This should have been dealt with 12 months ago by the board, but Koeman certainly exacerbated the situation with that deadline in my view.
and if he signs the contract everyones a winner. Probably not the best tactic but going on past dealings (when Rooney left so late) Im glad that's the approach now. The club should always try to hold the cards in these situations and if players and fans noses get put out of joint so be it. Its a business at the end of the day and we need to look after the clubs interest

I'd be comforted by the thought of a director of football not allowing a short term manager to mess up the long term, if it didn't seem like the 648 billion we spent on Bolasie was Walshs idea. (or that's how I remember it...could be wrong)

We could have signed Bolasie for a Toblerone and I'd be annoyed. At least we dodged a bullet on bloody Sissoko.

I personally put them in the sell to buy "panic signings" box and move on, hoping Walsh has more Ganas than Bolasies in the future.

If he stays and puts in a shift we will all be happy with that conclusion.

If Koeman didn't want him he would not be offered the contract, the manager is definitely more valuable than the player to us in terms of progression.

He will have to fight for his place thats for sure.

If it is indeed a 5 year deal, my guess is that Ross is hedging his bets on Koeman likely not being here in a season or two, which he may be correct about as Koeman likes to move around. He may very well think it's worth a season of penance in hope that whoever the next gaffer is gels with him better

It might mean he has to miss the World Cup though, but then again he's an Everton player and would probably miss it regardless of how often or well he played, so to quote Joey it's a "moo point"

If we bring in Sigurdsson, I can't see Barkley starting vs Stoke.

Then it's up to the club to decide if he's worth that outlay. If he is, great, sign him on. If not, great, get rid. It's asset management.

What's it's not is down to the manager to devalue that asset in public. I really wouldn't have minded if we had sold Barkley, but we'd have sold him on the cheap for no reason due to the way we handled it.

Still personally think that this and January is Walsh in charge and last summer was a weird leftover from past ways of doing business, and Walsh wasnt involved in things anywhere near as much as we'd have thought until now

That's all Koeman said.

Again though, protecting assets is down to the board. It wasn't Koeman that allowed him into his last year of contract.

Looking after the immediate interest of the team is the manager - Koeman wanted a quick decision to move quickly for other replacements.

Koeman did the same at Southampton with Clyne and others.

Wouldn't be surprised if the contract signed was the original offered either... this is Ross Barkley we're talking about.

I hope so, but as we are Everton supporters we will just have to wait for the proof of it and hopefully it will come in spades this summer.

But Bolasie was a good signing though

He was doing fine then got hurt by an on pitch injury. Not much you can do about that
