What if he's actually injured and has already signed a new deal? Widely regarded he's spurs number 1 target so let them waste all summer trying to sign him on the cheap at the end of the window and then announce he's signed a new contract leaving them little time to bring in other targets. Crazy talk.
If he signed a new contract it'd be common knowledge within football and there's no way it can, or would, be kept secret. Doesn't benefit anyone in the long term.

And even if he were Spurs No1 target (highly unlikely) it's not like their entire staff do nothing but try and get the number 1 target. For every transfer that goes through there's probably 5 lined up and at some advanced stage or other. Clubs don't just work their way down a long list one at a time in sequential order.

Let's face it. Spurs have told him to sit tight just like we did to Lennon. He will go on deadline day.

Unfortunately if he was going to sign it would have been before now because all he's doing is losing wages.

He wouldn't get in the Spurs side

He wouldn't but he's a far better player than Moussa Sissoko! Spurs have a fantastic 11 but a terrible extended squad, them signing Ross Barkley, even if he is predominantly a bench player, makes total sense.

It's a lot more confusing looking at it from Barkley's perspective but if he doesn't start every game there won't be much pressure on him, he'll probably get more games for England just because he is at one of their fancied clubs and he'll probably have a great place in London and a wage boost to boot... so maybe it does make sense for him.
