Ross Barkley

Thought barkley played a bit like Gibson today. I mean that postively like gibson 2012 and that he has the skill set to render gibbons wages as utterly pointless.

Thought Barkley had a very good first half last night. Kept the ball well, and created a great chance for himself. I think it's a good thing that Alli has broke on to the scene because England now have a new saviour. and it takes the pressure off Barkley. I remember a game before the World Cup where Oxlade Chamberlain had a great game and Barkley also played well, but Barkley seemed to take all the plaudits as he was the new kid on the block. Then when you compare the hype around Alli in the first half against Germany and nothing much was said about Barkley last night. The pundits were glowing about the turn Alli did and failed pass whereas Ross actually did a similar turn and had a shot that nearly went in.

Second half he wasn't as involved and dropped a lot deeper. I also think it's gone unnoticed by a lot of people, just how mature he looks now in an England shirt. They had him man marked for the whole game last night, but he barely gave the ball away. Of course some people aren't happy that he stuck to the basics, but then they moan when he tries to go on runs and loses it. Decent performance last night.

Ive always stuck up for Ross, even last season. But I do think he needs to show more hunger/desire. At times he seems to just stroll around the pitch.

I've always thought he would be s number 8, don't think he's as effective with his back to goal. And when getting man marked he needs to move a bit more.

I think when you see Ali and even lallana, they show more energy around the pitch.

The one time he played a quick one two he left his marker for dead, and that kid is supposed to be one of the highest rated kids in Europe.

I've said for a while, I think he needs a manager who's going to be tough on him. Martinez has been good for his development, but needs to kick on now

I thought he still had a decent game, with out being spectacular

Only the Daily Mail gave him any kind of decent rating.

Appears he was bang average and I watched a different game.

One paper even said he was sloppy, im not sure he once lost the ball.

These same people want him to try more......

EDIT : Telegraph gave him Man of the match

Very strange how the ratings work, people all see the game differently I suppose. You find some journos are biased, IE London based giving the London players higher marks.

Dier and Ali got 6 in one paper, though only being on then pitch 10mins

Barkley v Germany had a hand in both goals, after coming on and set up a good chance for Henderson. And got a 5

I think Woy has warmed to Barkley alot over the past 12 months.

Last season i was worried when Barkley would go away with England that a lot of yelling at him would ruin his confidence.

But now good old Woy trys to give him as many minutes as possible, even when he is not starting he is usualy one of the first players he brings on.

Yesterday he gave him the full 90 minutes which is promising to see that he is not afraid to play Ross and Dele Alli together.

No surprise to see 'Alli is way better than Barkley' in all the comments sections of the papers today.

Ross has become too timid, he's had a good season no doubt but he was fearless in his first season... he's becoming too conservative, too afraid to try things.

You can tell Roy rates Alli higher as well, when the media were hyping Ross and making comparisons he tried to play it down but he was first on the Alli hype train by saying he could be the next robson.

Only a miracle results in Barkley starting at the euros, unfortunate for him but he needs to show more and become the driving force behind the team.

Well lets see what happens to Ali then after this season, he is also playing with the lack of fear Ross did 3 years ago!!!

I think you're right. It's clear to see that Barkley has matured now, and is easily capable of keeping possession and not taking many risks which is what the England fans, the media and the manager himself demanded from him in the past few years. But Hodgson will also see that he has the ability to break from the half way line and drive in to the opposition danger area, and the other cautious players like "Hendo" and Milner just aren't capable of it. I reckon Barkley will firmly be in his plans, but most likely from the bench initially as there is a media bandwagon for Dele Alli at the moment.

Remember though, Barkley got a lot of the unnecessary hype that Alli got when he first broke through too.

Alli played no better in the first half in Germany than Barkley did last night in the first half. The panel at half time raved about a shot that Alli ballooned in to the stands that Welbeck set up for him, and also a classy turn and failed pass that Barkley would have been pulled up for by England fans and Evertonians for being "wasteful" in possession. Barkley also did a run last night from his own half, that Lallana messed up, and I didn't see Alli do it once in Germany.

I'm not trying to be harsh on Alli the other night though as he was excellent in the second half and the driving force behind the win. But he didn't warrant the hype in the first, and the England team also looked a lot better on Saturday when Barkley came on. I also noticed a Holland attack from Alli losing the ball carelessly last night, but of course it was overlooked.
