Ross Barkley

Did the manager tell him to stand still and start blowing out of his arse as he was robbed of the ball, or to consistently give the ball away on the half way line by mis controlling it?

Yeah, in their view he's probably telling Stones to wave his hands in the air and then place them on his hips every time he loses the ball too!

I still believe he can turn out to be a top player. A proper manager with a proper management style will get him, and a few others, back on track.
I agree. He is best driving forward running at players. Current system is slow and laboured. He is constantly receiving the ball when he is standing still and surrounded. It neutralises him and he Ends up passing backwards.
There is a really good player in there but he needs nurturing.

Please we need to remember he is still a kid, he is expected to be our saviour in a struggling team.
Experienced pro's carry the burden like Jags, Baines and Barry while kids drift in and out.
Rest assured he is the real deal and once his and the teams confidence is back you will see the Ross we all know is in there.
I dont agree with this "he's just a kid" defence? He is what, 23? Hardly a child! i agree he seems a confidence palyer, and i agree he has almost everything required to become a top, top player, but he is not a kid! Most lasds of 23 have jobs, rent or and kids to looks after! He has none of those worries, all he has to do is pull on a blue shirt and play like that shirt means somehing to him! To be honest mate, Lennon does a better job of doing that than Ross 'lifelong blue' Barkley does? While i dont doubt Martinez ridiculous levels of praise doesnt help, me and every true Evertonian I have ever known would be spewing up with the effort of trying to make amends when the team is this poor?

I want the lad to succeed, i really do, but we have to stop making excuses for him, if he isnt man enough to step up to the plate at 23, then i very much doubt he ever will?

He's allowed himself to get out of shape and has looked garbage this season. Even if our tactics don't suit him, a good player would figure it out and adapt his game. I certainly don't have the high opinion of him that others on here do.

He's not intricate enough to play in the final third; he hesitates, does that daft shuffle and makes the wrong pass or lays it back 5 seconds too late. Dele Alli in the same area is much more decisive.

The only way Barkley becomes a top player is if he has the humility to accept he's not a #10 and focuses on becoming a more orthodox midfielder. The best game I've seen him have was against QPR where he tackled everything, passed simply and quickly and drove forward from deep and scored a worldie, all from the '#8' role.

His short possession passing is very good, he's got very clean feet and has the physicality to boss the midfield. As I said earlier, he requires ground infront of him to instinctively burst into without thinking, and the congestion of a Premier League central midfield would force that out of him. He's also got a cracking shot on him, but generally [Poor language removed] about too much rather than unleash one from range.

Again, a lot is down to Martinez telling him he's a final third player when a proper coach like Mourinho would have come down hard on him and made him understand where his strengths really lie.

Too lazy, careless to play deeper, bottles everything as well

look at what ross is being asked to do .... a role that don't work with tactics that don't work in a formation that don't work.
same with lukaku.

id be fed up and demoralised too.

stick aguero and messi in there roles and they will have the same problems.
