Have been very critical of him but I have to agree it has been OTT

Yeah typical small minded mentality, build someone up to something they are not then take delight in knocking them down. Pathetic
THisI fully believe Booby insisted he not expend energy tracking back and putting his foot in. Even if he didn't he certainly didn't demand he do it. The first time he stood looking gormless as a player sauntered past him Guardiola, Mourinho, Klopp etc etc would absolutely lose their heads with him and maybe even drag him off. People are neglecting to admit just how bloody bad Martinez is at this management lark and how managers DIRECTLY influence player performance. We'll see what Ross is all about next season.
Is Ross following the same pattern as Rooney. Burst on to the scene running directly at defenders and looking quite frankly scary. Then starts to mature a little after getting a lot of focus from the opposition. Game becomes more conservative everyone now thinks he has is [Poor language removed]! Does look too bulky to me but have a lot of faith in him, needs the new manager to instilling a bit of confidence in him.
Matt Lawton stating much the sameMate can tell you right now, say you take over Bayern Munichs fitness training, then within a year those players would look shockingly unfit compared to how they are now, because professional sportsman at this level need to be specifically and individually molded, it's long ogne from the days of sinking 12 pints on a friday and getting on the pitch on the saturday afternoon like it used to be.
Maybe Barkley is just someone who doesn't fully understand how to get himself in the best shape for playing and has gone overboard on the gym work - that for me looks the case anyways as he has bulked up massively the past 12 months and it certainly isnt fat.
In short he is putting the work in but its not the right type of work to aid him on the pitch mate, its why all clubs have proffesionals these days whose sole job it is is to do this with players

was exhausted at the end of a season that saw him play in all 38 Premier League games for his club and 10 cup matches.
He may not have been helping himself here. His reaction to a poor performance is to train even harder, and it is those extra hours in the gym that maybe explain why he does look a little heavier than normal.
Agree it was an excellent article - not really what you expect of the Mail!A few lads have been saying similar all season, he's just been left to his own devices leading to him to hit the weights more than normal or is even needed.
Very good that from Lawton and it's also very defensive, unusual to see such a defensive article and not one that is attacking him being unfit.

But iirc it was Lawton that broke the news that it wasn't the Amercian's that were buying us but Moshiri, guess he must have decent sources inside the club.
Certain journo's are good but a lot just will print stuff to get clicks and a debate going - unfortunately savaging a player will do that as for every supporter of that particular lad there will be a handfull that dislike them and are keen to express it.Oh I wasn't suggesting Lawton would attack Barkley, somebody else probably will if he doesn't make tomorrow's squad. As he pointed out, Butcher kicked off and he'll only be the first one of a few.
Our media love to drag a talented lad down, I think a few will be rubbing their hands in excitement of all the hot takes they can produce about him not making the squad.
Think he could well do with seeing a sports psychologist, really worry at his mental weakness, it may hinder his natural talent if he's never got any confidence.
See what the new manager can do with him.
I love Ross but he needs to man up a bit.
