Ross Barkley

Townsends been playing well tbh, and we aren't blessed with a lot of wide players.

As has been pointed out, the players in Ross's position are in better form, and will offer a lot more. It's a no brainer really.

Milner, Henderson, Wilshere? Yeh they offer loads more?

Roy plays a 4-3-3 so Barkley wouldn't be playing in a No.10 position anyway.

Towsnend could hardly get in the Newcastle team that got relegated. He's a one-trick pony.

I hope for his sake that he makes the cut, but I really don't think he deserves it.

He deserves it as much as any of the others like Sterling, Sturridge, Henderson, Cahill, Wilshere etc who are guaranteed of places.

I don't think he'll make the cut, and it'll be a crying shame, and it's why England won't ever go anywhere. Barkley was pretty much a starter by the end of qualifying, yet Roy would of course rather take two unfit players.

Media clearly forgetting who helped swing the game against Germany in Englands favour. As a country we love to do this, knock any flair player we have who isn't from Liverpool or United. Then when we get to the tournament bemoan our lack of quality footballers. If the media want to watch Milner Henderson and Lallana chase shadows for yet another tournament then they will get their wish. England need Ross. In form or not he's one of the most talented players in the squad and one of the few genuine game changers match winners in the team.

They do actually. But then you know that Alli and Rooney are the ones who will be playing that position.
Townsend was probably Newcastle's best player since they signed him, no idea what you are talking about.

Unfortunately you just described barkley, one trick pony

I feel sorry for the lad as Martinez has run him into the ground this year and he has lost his way. With good coaching and without the disaster season for Everton he would be starting, it annoys me that Roy will take unfit players, like Wilshire, but I can also see why Ross isnt going to make the cut.

Agreed. Not sure why both Henderson and Milner are needed. Both run around alot and play for RS of course. They're never going to change a game. Barkley hasn't done himself justice since Christmas really but as you say, he deserves it no less than some of the others. I mean, Wilshere is decent but what is the criteria for picking him? Sterling has been awful this season but will probs get the nod over Townsend.
My worry for Ross is that if he doesn't make it he doesn't seem the type to roll his sleeves up and show them they were wrong next season. He seems like a confidence player who needs an arm around his shoulder.

He lost his way the last couple of months, but he has scored 12 goals and has about the same in assists. Not a bad return at all. When he needed a rest he was played. As has happened with quite a few of our players under RM.

To say he doesn't deserve to go is terrible. Wilshere, Townsend, Henderson and Sterling are players that he has played better than.

Agree and if this is indeed the case, then it's up to the club/national team manager and their respective coaching staff to work with him and provide the arm around the shoulder... not leave him to himself and hope everything works out.

Ross is a work in progress... with the right man/men working with and nurturing him, he will achieve greatness.

Left to his own devices, he'll likely flounder and become disillusioned.

It's his own fault that he's developing a reputation as a passenger. Someone with his natural ability shouldn't be relying on others, such as those listed, doing even worse than he is.

We talked a few months ago about the danger of Alli pushing Barkley out of the squad, and now that Rooney is too fat to play up front it's exactly what has happened.

Miller and Henderson are team players. No risk attached. Pains me to say that but they are a safer option. Against Australia in the short time on the field he(Ross) gave the ball away almost every touch.
