Ross Barkley

Miller and Henderson are team players. No risk attached. Pains me to say that but they are a safer option. Against Australia in the short time on the field he(Ross) gave the ball away almost every touch.
They are more 'team players' agreed. Every team needs them of course. But their
standards aren't up to it if we're thinking in terms of winning the Euros (which I assume Roy is). If we're just thinking of getting out of the Group they might just do it. Barkley has lost his way and his place in the starting 11 (rightly so). I think he still offers something from the bench though. He did reasonably well in the qualifying campaign which Roy apparently sees as meaningful (loyalty wise). It will be interesting to see if Ross makes it.

Personally I think he'll go. Deservedly so? Probably just about based on early season form. Will he play much? Doubtful.

To be honest if it wasn't for our whole team being terrible come end of the season, Barkley would have been dropped from playing for us with his form -

I would take Barkley because he's a game changer and we don't have many of those but with Woy likely to take Rashford now and Rooney and Ali both rightly or wrongly ahead of him in the pecking order it's no surprise if he doesn't make it. The manaher wrecked his confidence in the last major tournament and it may do him good in the long wrong but i do feel if he misses out it's down to Woy's blind faith in injury hit, unfit players like Wilshere and Sturridge. Fingers crossed for the boy.

Amuses me the stick Hodgson gets. He's given Barkley way more games than his form has warranted tbh, even last year when he stinking the place out.
He played him in all 3 World Cup games last time, starting him in one.
He's consistently promoted youth and gave Alli, Kane, Dier and Vardy games when people were still unsure of all four. He's doing it again with Rashford.
He likes Wilshere in midfield because the lad is a genuine footballer.

With the players he has available, I think he's done a decent job, and has been very generous to both Ross and Stones.

They do actually. But then you know that Alli and Rooney are the ones who will be playing that position.
Townsend was probably Newcastle's best player since they signed him, no idea what you are talking about.

He didn't play regularly (Townsend that is)... Until the last few games of the season. He's half-decent and offers something different, so I do understand him being in the squad.

Milner and Henderson are solid enough but neither do anything special.

Wilshere should be nowhere near the squad, due to the fact he hasn't played any football all season.

Alli not a gamble. Ross is. Woy doesn't appear to be a risk taker

How is Alli not a gamble?

He's had one good season?

He's a good player, very good, but fgs, it's so hyped-up. He was man-marked out of the game by Claudio Yacob against West Brom with ease. Claudio Yacob...

Vardy is 28/29 but you are spot on for the other point.

It's his own fault that he's developing a reputation as a passenger. Someone with his natural ability shouldn't be relying on others, such as those listed, doing even worse than he is.

We talked a few months ago about the danger of Alli pushing Barkley out of the squad, and now that Rooney is too fat to play up front it's exactly what has happened.

I agree on the first point. He has to get himself back to his level.

But if he misses out, and a player like Wilshere (who will go) goes even though he hasn't played a full game all season, it's very harsh.

Barkley has the ability to be a game-changer - whereas the likes of Henderson and Milner don't (though I do think both are solid enough players). That's my point.

It's like Stones. He should play. He should start. Because he doesn't make any more mistakes than Cahill does, and in that case you should start the 22-year-old with bags of potential who needs game time to fulfil that, rather than the 30-year-old.

I'd have Yacob here by the way. Absolute snidey little onion.

He is like, but it's just this sudden thing that Alli is some world-class player.

He really isn't. I've seen him go missing in just as many games as Ross has this year.

Both still have a long way to go.
