Ross Barkley

Yet if Alli was supposedly as world-class as he is he'd have been able to find a way past him... is my point.

Your point doesnt really make sense to me.

Of course Alli isnt world class yet. Hes just a kid. He is currently twice the player that Barkley is though because he believes in his ability. I would love us to have a player like him. Ideally England should be having Alli and Barkley behind Kane as a potent attack for years to come. One of these 3 players needs to step up though as the other two have done.

I think Ross is clearly a confidence player. Once his head drops its game over, he starts trying too hard and overthinking everything.

When he plays instinctively hes class. Hoping the new manager will instill some confidence in him along with the rest of the team and we'll see his real ability next year.

Gotta remember hes still a kid and at the start of this season he was banging them in and getting plenty of assists too which was a massive improvement on the season before

With players like Dowell and Davies (amongst others) ready to come through, who cares if it doesn't work out for Barkley? Not like we've spent millions on him and he's a one-of-a-kind player. We don't owe him a career.

Put it this way: would you persist with Barkley forever if it meant the likes of Dowell and Davies never get a look in? Who's to say they might not end up even better than Barkley?

Why was it a disgrace though?

I don't think it was.

He was in poor form and his head dropped. He was trying, but it wasn't working and the whole team wasn't functioning. That's not disgraceful. It's football and it's human.

Maybe disgrace is a bit harsh but that was my go to phrase for the end of last season.

To me to looks like he only wants to know if he has the ball. His head did drop which shows his mentality (or lack of) for me.

Look at similar players to him over the past few years. Rooney, gerrard, Alli. Barkely has as much natural talent as them but at the same age (younger in Alli's case) they were bombing round the pitch getting in peoples faces, snarling at people really showing how good they are. Barkley doesnt do that and he is getting to the point where he cant be classed as a kid any more.

I was made up to see him snap in the Semi Final. He needs more of that. Im not saying he is rubbish or I would give up on him or anything like that. I am just saying he needs to seriously step up next season. he has shown what he can do. He needs to do it more consistently now. We should be looking at building a team around him for years to come. At this point I cant see that happening.

Davies has looked tremendous in his limited appearances. he is deffo one who believes in himself. He's a cocky git. We need more of that.

That was a good piece by Winter. One of the biggest flaws in Martinez's mindset is the idea that not grafting for your teammates makes you a better player, which couldn't be further from the truth.

For example, Dimitar Berbatov wasn't a joy to watch because he a smoked 20 bifters a week and never put a tackle in; it was being able to trap a tennis ball dropped out of a plane that set him apart. If he had the application to go along with his talent, he wouldn't have been the one to miss out on the Champions League Final in 2009.

Wow.
We hit one pothole on the road and you want to ditch the Ferrari.

hahaha?

Really? I'd say they're on a pretty level pegging, considering you can't judge a player solely on one season.

Ferrari, behave yourself.

To further your hyperbolic analogy, if that pothole wrecked the suspension, and two brand new Ferraris are ready to be delivered, are you going to faff about fixing the old one or give the new one a run out. It'll need breaking in, of course, can't go ragging it straight from the factory...

Ross, 12 goals, 11 assists for the season.
Alli, 10 goals, 12 assists for the season.
Ross had an awful second half to the season as well.
"Twice" the player isn't backed up anywhere really.
A firing Ross Barkley that believes in himself is a superior player to Alli, simple as

You don't even know that Dowell and Davies are Ferraris sorry.
They've not yet stamped any kind of mark on the Premier League, unlike Ross.
That's an argument that is flawed at its very center.

You also don't know if the Ferrarkley is now fundamentally damaged and needs recalling...

Anyway, the point is that football is a continuous conveyor belt, and we shouldn't be too concerned if a particular player doesn't make it.
