Ross Barkley

I agree.

But if we forget about his pressing and look at his creative side, if the forward line isn't moving...how does he get better?

There needs to be far mobility with all 4 of them, he doesn't need to come looking for the ball all the time, lukaku the same.

We tend to hoof it because there are literally no options, defender's aren't being pulled out of position. Under Martinez we had exactly the same issue, static players, but aimlessly overplayed it and ended up losing the ball.

The heat map today shows barkley and lukaku occupying the same space, there is an obvious issue and Koeman is not happy about it. It must be so easy to defend against us

That's why I would not blame everything on Koeman. These players played under a system for Martinez for three years. Koeman needs time and a new team to play his brand of football.

Which leans to more to my belief Koeman isn't the best at setting us up to attack.

I thought he was decent today, baring the last 20/15 minutes when the plan was to bypass the midfield with hoofballs.
Any decent attacks went through him, he admittedly should have buried his chance. But not many in this league can create that chance with that first touch.

He plays in a position were he should be scoring goals and creating chances. For me he doesn't do enough. Decent money came for him I personally would move him on as I don't see any sign of improvement at the moment. I would love him to come good but I just don't see it unfortunately. Hope I am wrong.
You could put David silva in our team. And he would struggle at times.

We haven't got enough quality infront of him imo, movement not great, our wide players stay wide. Leaving rom isolated. And even rom's movement at times is poor.

Not that I'm saying Ross is perfect because he's not, and I've always thought he was more of s midfielder than a 10. I also think the team would benefit with a midfielder who's prepared to run past Barkley at times. It's so easy for the opposition to set up to mark him, as no other midfielder is running past him to keep the other team guessing

Good post mate cant ever recall us playing with a midfielder who would run past him.

We have played the most long balls in the league I read & our movement Is non existent to shocking he isn't exactly playing in circumstances that would get the best from him.

Or the players aren't following his instructions, especially considering he's made numerous remarks about his forward line

Almost £100mill worth of "talent" and the " best striker in the league" but they can't follow instructions.

Or hoof it to the striker or out wide and see what happens.

Agreed.

Although, if we had Silva you'd hope that wed be forced to play a team around that talent.

We don't.

Might not agree with the article but a mini segment from last year relating to Barkley being a square peg in a round hole:

Because he wants the ball to feet in space but we are more direct, and our first option is always out wide.

He either does one of two things...carry on wanting the ball in midfield areas. Or just stand near Lukaku in and around the box.

The him v Deli Ali player comparisons always crop up in this. They're both completely different, yet some want Barkley to be like him. But Spurs don't play with wingers...we do. Spurs have Eriksen and Demeble pulling strings. Ross is more like the later two than Ali.

I'd agree hes a square peg in a round hole, but more down to wondering how to use him
