2017/18 Ross Barkley

Furthermore, if the club has known since April, then just get rid of the player and open discussions with Spurs surely?

It's in both Barkley's, and Spurs/Chelsea's own interest to wait until January isn't it?

The phrase annoys but he's been "tapped up"

Koeman's initial comments, and the narrative that followed suggests to me, around April he knew Barkley was going to take the piss.

The first comments made when Koeman was asked about his contract;

"I spoke to Ross several weeks ago and he mentioned his ambition, Champions League, and I told him I have the same ambition," Koeman said.

"We're going in a good direction and he is a key player, he is a kid of the club, a kid of the town and in my opinion, there is no better place for him to continue.

"I think it's a normal ambition for players, every player and manager wants to play in the Champions League.

"Our next step is to play in Europe, it may be difficult, if we finish fifth or sixth that will be perfect because you don't play any pre-qualification games for Europe."

Koeman added: "I am not involved in the negotiations, but I know the board is talking to his agent.

"Of course we need to know the answer before the end of the season. It's all about the contract and we will offer him what is good, what is normal and what the player is.

"I think the way he is improving this season, Everton is the best place for him to continue."

We're now seeing why "C'mon, we need to know his intentions before the end of the season" moved to "Sign or be sold" - he's proven to be the rat Koeman/Everton suspected he'd be.

I have a vague memory of an interview with Barkley shortly after Stones went to City. There was something in that which made me think he was already wondering about greener grass elsewhere. Hard to take when a good local player wants to move on but there are ways of doing it which are easier to take than others........ If I knew for sure he had been getting dog's abuse from RK frequently in training I might think differently but for what little we know for sure Barkley really has not covered himself in glory.

'I don't really know much of what went on because I've been away on international duty,' he said of his saga.

'You try to focus on that when you're in a hotel but when I get back I'm sure I will have a chat with the chairman and the manager, but before I left we'd said, 'If something happens or it doesn't we'll just get on with it'.

'As a player you don't really know what's going on a lot of the time and a lot of things are word of mouth.

'We're not involved in that process but everything was left on good terms because it was a hypothetical situation. I just want to get on with what I was doing and see what happens.

'I'm a West Brom player and I'm the captain. I spoke about that in my programme notes last week and I'll be looking forward to going back and seeing the lads.'

If so, why agree terms with Chelsea? That's the opposite of being "tapped up", because if he was he wouldn't have entertained Chelsea and definitely wouldn't have agreed terms.

That's where the confusion comes in for me.

Denying he had a medical,be interesting to see if anyone at Chelsea comments,

The medical comments only come from Moshiri, and we all know he's a liar by now for many reasons.

Not a conspiracy either based on "net spend" or anything either - unless you believe James McCarthy wasn't sold and Sissoko wasn't bought because good ol' James is "family", then Moshiri is a confirmed liar.

Been stitched up by both Manager and chairmen now, no wonder he doesn't want to be here.

How precious is he should we all just give the little darling whatever he wants so he can find it in himself to remain with his boyhood club who gave him his chance to be a player who stood by him when he suffered a serious injury at 17. I think the club or the manager even paid to send him and his family on holiday after he broke his leg and how does he show his gratitude and apparent love for the club?

Runs down his contract to leave on the cheep.
