Im not sure.I've said a bit about Ross on this thread. But im starting to think now that Koeman is trying to drive him out of the club.

How? How can Koeman be driving him out, you can only drive soneone out that wants to be here

Except that he rejected a lucrative move to Chelsea to sign for a club that will pay him less than we will....

But has he? He cant play until the next window for anyone because he is injured, all he has done is hang back a few months so he can get an even better deal

Will he be willing to accept £60k a week from Spurs? Because they're currently refusing to offer their best defender Alderweireld any more than that with 18 months remaining on his contract.

...Harry Winks has just won his first international cap and it’s reported Spurs are prepared to double his salary to £40k per week. The Reds pay their reserve players more than that so it could be a problem for Spurs in years to come. I suspect Barkley will have already been offered an amount he finds acceptable (perhaps £80k-£100k).

I find it hard to believe, on the strict budget that they're operating on, that they'd be willing to make Barkley one of their top earners over the likes of Alli, Eriksen, Alderweireld and Rose who have been there years and got them to where they are. Don't forget, Spurs were willing to let Barkley go to Chelsea in the summer without even tabling a bid, they can't rate him that highly.

..if the interest is to be believed, then surely Barkley and his representatives have already agreed a contract. I can imagine the terms offered by Chelsea were considerably more but the player appears to have set his heart on joining Spurs.

Imagine if you were one of the above mentioned Spurs players though. You'd be furious wouldn't you, break your back to improve your game year in year out and help the club finish in the top 3 two years on the bounce on a modest wage, to see some no-mark who's done nothing in his career come straight in on double your salary. That could prove to unsettle a good chunk of the squad if it is the case, and Spurs can't afford that at this stage in their development.

..that happens at all clubs, though. Acquisitions are often on more than those already contracted. It’s why the likes of Duncan Ferguson had a clause that he would always be the top earner.

I think the bigger problem for Spurs is when other clubs offer the likes of Harry Kane and Delli Ali £300k per week.

My guess is Spurs are readying Barkley as a replacement for someone. with their wage structure they've struggled to keep their top players - i can't imagine why any of their players would want to leave personally but money rules the game and if someone offers Kane or Delle almost double their money their heads will be turned.

I agree, but that process is going to be sped up if there's unrest among the squad and they start making noises about leaving. That will happen if Ross Barkley swans in as their highest earner for no reason, a player they weren't even interested in bidding for despite him clearly wanting the move and being on the verge of signing for their rivals.

If that is the case then they need to start acting like a big club and change their wage structure to try and keep these players. They're never going to be able to build on what they've done so far by selling their best players and replacing with inferior, they're just going to end up like Liverpool over the past 10-15 years. The odd good season in 5, sprinkled in amongst Europa League - mid table finishes.
