That's a conundrum isn't it, what comes first, the chicken or the egg?
Do we sell a player to buy others, or do we buy (unless we produce the player through our ranks) a player to then sell and buy others?

Maybe Koeman sees him as a Franny Jeffers/Michael Ball/Jose Baxter waiting to happen?

I do fear the club has told him that they aren't arsed if he goes, & he's had a paddy about it. They may of lowballed him to get him out, but why risk him going on a free. From a business sense, an academy product you make bank on, is gold. Different if he was a flop on high wages. Ross will see Rom messed the club around over a deal and got a move to Utd, Del is in Barça, and stone's messed us around enough that no one was arsed he went to City. All will get ridiculous wages and sponsorship for being at CL clubs. There's got to be a few facets to this.. Ross is a Nike athlete right? Wonder if they'd also incentivise him to go Spurs, City or Chelsea..

He still had an important role, was one of our most used players, usually the first to come off the bench,just wasnt starting regularly. Hardly a bit part player

Don't mean to be fineky here, but under Mourhino he was one of the first on the team sheet, under Conte he was straight on the bench, he can't be happy with that surely.
Would definitely enquire if I was Koeman, no harm in asking because sometimes, no matter how popular, you always find somebody that doesn't fancy you.
