2017/18 Ross Barkley

Well that's not hard to figure out. It's another atrempt by Ross and his people to make the club look like the bad guys and Ross the injured party. A formal stament or a transfer request would be a public awknolagement that its Ross forcing the club's hand. A fact that some seem incapable of excepting for some reason.

but he's already came across as a little snake anyway so not done him much good as it

You can argue about Barkley all you want, but the fact remains we've badly missed his link up play in the two competitive games we've had this season.

He's a top player for that reason. If he goes, we need Sigurdsson in to replace obviously, but you're fooling yourself if you think he's anywhere near as good at linking midfield to attack. Barkley's stats are in another league to Gylfi in that regard.

It isn't wrong at all.

Ross is going, he is coming in, it is actually quite simple.

As for your break down, yes he is costing 50m or thereabouts, but some will be recouped for Ross and for McCarthy, so don't really see that as a major sticking point personally.
Neither do I but if it was easy then we would have sorted it weeks ago & siggurdson would have had a pre season it's been anything but easy & that's not even taking into Account the fact that siggurdson should be supplementary to Ross.

In any case I don't think he is even being replaced by siggurdson or klassen we need them all or it's likely 7th beckons once again.

..I think that's a valid point, he does fill the back-to-front void with the ability to pick the ball up from deep and make the pitch look small with his running power. Saying that, Koeman likes box to box players which should alleviate the need to link defensive midfielders who rarely cross the half way line and attackers.

Just have to wait and see, he could be better at linking play for us. I just want everything sorted tbh

We are going to miss Barklay and Lukaku this season big time. Unless we bring players of an equal ability in we are going to struggle
This season I feel will be about focusing on the new ground looking on the bright side !

He plays two defensive midfielders most games. You can't do that with a box to box as the extra man in a five man midfield, because you are then relying on a striker dropping off and we have nobody who can do it effectively and that means you have no striker in advanced areas. That's why he had to play two strikers yesterday because there was no link otherwise, and as proven yesterday Rooney simply can't do that job anymore. It's not his game.

The problem yesterday wasn't a lack of pace; it was a case of square pegs in round holes because we completely lack a Barkley that is required for it to work.

I don't get why clubs just don't pay that stupid loyalty fee when a player says they want to leave. How is that different than a transfer request? Lukaku said it every time he end on international duty, Barkley has told Koeman he wants out. Should be pretty cut and dry at that point!

..but his defensive midfielders are not like Martinez's. Barry and McCarthy rarely crossed the half way line but you see the difference with Gueye in particular looking to join in further up the pitch. Schneiderlin has actually said he has to get forward more. It's one of the reasons some are suggesting Klaassen or Davies might be a more effective partner for Schneiderlin.

Barkley was vital for Martinez to join static defensive midfielders with forward players.

Barkley was in the top 10 for chances created and the top 10 for distance travelled up the pitch with the ball in the whole league for the last two years.

Anyone who says he won't be missed is deluded.

We don't know why he is not prepared to stay. He could have been tapped up, he might not like working with Koeman.

RK has a habit of falling out with star players. Tadic and Mane didn't like being publicly slated either.

That's transfers for you, some done quickly, some not, think it's been no secret that Gylfi would be coming to us for a while now though. For whatever reason it has dragged, but I think we are at cross purposes here, as me saying it was simple, was meant about Gylfi being integrated into the side as a replacement for Ross.

As for 7th place beckoning again, you might be right, the gap and the spending power of some of the teams above us looks too big.
