Ross Trevor Barkley

I can't wait till he has a bad run of form and then he takes over Vic's mantle as the scapegoat. One thing it gives Ossie, Hibbo and Rodwell a rest. Funny really, because it seems the guys who have come through the ranks get more criticism.

Back on topic, Ross is some talent and I think he will have a major role by the end of the season. I was genuinely excited when I saw our midfield yesterday.

Anichebe - 23
Fellaini - 23
Rodwell - 20
Barkley - 17
Coleman - 22

I agree with this mate, people will be screaming for him to be given games - he will get some and impress - but when he has a blip ala Rodwell - we will see, sell Barckley for 20 mill threads.

For some reason are the harshest on our own.

I was impressed with my first look at Barkley last night, good control and skill and not short on confidence. He did give the ball away a couple of times when trying to be clever in a deep position, he'll need to play the simple ball when under pressure sometimes but I'm sure he'll learn. It was good seeing him and Rodwell on the same pitch to compare them. Barclays first inclination is always to move forward and he looked most effective outside the opposing area, Rodwell naturally goes backwards or sideways with nearly every first touch and for me would be better and more comfortable as a central defender. Felt a bit sorry for Barkley when he went on the right, he kept drifting inside but had less influence on the game there. As some people are trying to build him up as our next Wayne Rooney (unfair pressure but understandable in these penniless times) I took my Rooneyometre with me last night, he registered 7 out of 10 which to put things into perspective is very high. My first sight of Anichebe only registered a 3 (Rooney was an 11).

I think there has been strong sense that Barckley was something special for a couple of years if im honest - as with Hope now who we have known about since 14.

I think he will be in and out of the team this year i can see him getting about 15 odd games as a sub etc maybe starting 1 or 2.

*I see Barckley to everyone threads somewhere in our future.

Barkley mate

"THE ROSSATRON" ALL NIGHT LONG.

So, should he start at spurs?

I think if he had only been used as sub in pre season then no, but he started the last 2 games against good opposition and did not look out of place whatsoever.

Seems a confident lad so reckon he will take the challenge on and not let any nerves get to him.

Give youth a chance Dave.

I'm pretty sure Barkley will start. I hope it is not on the right though, he can play there going forward but defensively on both occasions he has played there he has been drifted pass with glaring ease. The midfield will have ossie and Arteta out wide with Fellaini, Cahill and Barkley in the centre. ( I think!) He may start Heitinga instead of Barkley which although some will call negative it would give us an option from the bench to change things around which is better than brining Heitinga on for Barkley to change a game.

Howard - Neville, Jagielka, Heitinga, Baines - Rodwell, Fellaini - Osman, Barkley, Arteta - Saha

If I won't see Everton in this line up against Spurs, I will be disappointed.

Be prepared for disappointment then because if Cahill is fit he will start.

I'd go so far as to say he looked our best player against Villarreal

I reckon Barkley will start on the right hand side against Spurs as that's were our options are most limited and we could do with a creative exponent there. I also wouldn't fancy putting a 17 year old in centre midfield against one of the best sides in the league, he's not experienced enough to run a game like that yet, but he can be a dangerous player on the right with minimum pressure on him as he has the experience of our captain playing behind him

He won't start against spurs.

This. With Osman and Arteta back he won't start, hopefully on the bench though.

The team will be, Howard, Nev, Jags, Distin, Baines, Osman, Fellaini, Rodwell, Arteta, Cahill, Saha. Osman on the right, Arteta on the left, Cahill playing just off Saha.

Same old, same old.

Saha on The Rosser:

I think he's got all the ability to be a great player for Everton and for England," commented Saha. "Hopefully he will show that this season.

"It's not too early for him because he's got all the attributes to surprise a few people.

"He's got power, strength, confidence, speed - he's said a few times to me that I'm slower than him. Hopefully he will show that to the Premier League this season.

"I'm enjoying training with him and hopefully I will enjoy playing with him because I think he's got so many talents and he will definitely be a big star if he keeps working hard."

Now, the Spurs match is cancel QPR and Blackburn is just the sort of game we could let Barkley have a good go at it, with Coleman and may be Arteta out of it, I would be disappointed if Barkley ain't starting as I believe Barkley and Baines would be the spark we need to get our season started at QPR.

I hope this would be the line-up we did be seeing:-

---------------------- Howard ---------------------

--- Neville --- Jagielka --- Distin --- Baines ----

Barkley - Fellaini - Osman - Heitinga - Anichebe -

--------------------- Beckford --------------------

We could bring Saha, Rodwell & Gueye on in the second half for some playing time!

To be fair whoever said he was anichebe's scapegoat successor, if he runs his balls off he wont get anywhere near the criticism. If i see a player giving 100% commitment i will never boo him. A simple dousing in bovril is the gentleman's way.
