Roy Hodgson

Has probably done enough in the last few years to wash off the stain of his abysmal England tenure but his legacy should be that of a mediocre manager who did well stabilising lower end clubs but failed horribly whenever he got a chance at a big job.

Palace are a club with solid foundations now, if they get the make the right appointment next they could really take off. Woy has overstayed his welcome.

One thing I've gathered with the FA is they love a 'Yes man'. Someone who will basically do as they say. They even managed to get Capello to toe the party line by paying him ridiculous money for essentially a part-time job.
For years they have been told to pay certain players regardless of form and tactics. Thats why you saw Lampard and Gerrard together when it's clear they couldn't play in the same side without blunting each other. Harry Redknapp was about to get it (and should have IMO) but they suggested in his 3rd interview that he would have to play certain players when told to and he indicated he wouldn't dream of doing that. Bosh, job goes to Hodgson despite Redknapp being odds on favourite (10/1 on I think) the night before.
The FA are in panic mode at the minute because they haven't got a 'star' player. As good as Kane is, he isn't the most marketable on the planet and Sterling rubs too many people up the wrong way. They are praying that DCL takes it to the next level because he is marketable same goes for the lad at Chelsea (Mount) and that blert at right back across the park.
You cant shift merchandise with Harrys Kane & Maguires faces on. You'll end up with lawsuits.

Hodgson has also managed at International level previously (did a great job with Switzerland) and had managed one of the biggest clubs in the world. (Inter not the other lot).

Redknapp had done...well, none of that.

Think it was one of the games that was played in Manaus, which was the Amazonas city, which was even further behind, I feel like it may have been a 11pm start, but I may be mistaken.
Yeh sounds about right, can’t believe it was 7 years ago! Literally feels like 2 years max

Italy, Uruguay loses and then when we were out drew 0-0 with Costa Rica.... great effort
Tbf, that was a fairly decent Costa Rica team...they took the Netherlands to penalties in the quarterfinals and topped the group. The temperature and humidity of Brazil sho u ld not be underestimated as a factor either; a lot of that costs rcan team was playing domestically (oviedo was a with us and I think he was fresh off his leg break if memory serves) so it was no impediment to them. You just can't play at the same pace when it is 90 pct humid at that temperature and those teams know how to play in those conditions. But yeah that was a crap england team tho it had all the big names.

Oh I meant more the collective effort.

Costa Rica no doubt used the climate to their advantage, but they still turned Uruguay over 3-1 which was the shock of the tournament.

I think at the time the tournament was great, but looking back didn’t enjoy it anywhere near as much as I thought I did, was just a vast improvement on Vuvuzelas in South Africa!
