Rugby League at BMD

Are there even 50,000 people in the UK who like rugby league ? An even worse version of an already abysmal sport consisting of posh grocks endlessly running into each other.

Never met anyone into rugby league in my 45 years on this planet.
Do some research mate. It's a fantastic game and if you took the trouble to watch a match I'm sure you'd enjoy it.
It doesn't get the media attention it deserves but is a great sport.

Rugby? I remember Jack Charlton's first game as manager for Ireland against Wales. It was played at Landsdowne Road, a rugby pitch, and Neville Southall was in goal for Wales. He broke his ankle in a hole in the ground and missed the rest of the season 85/86 and we had Bobby Mimms in goal which cost us the league title. No way rugby shou;ld be allowed at BMD
Totally different code. Like comparing Basketball and Netball.

I've seen rugby league before, back in the days when Wigan used to win everything. I just can't get into sports where you hold the ball and run. The only memorable thing I ever remember happening in Rugby was Jonah Lomu flatlining the Underwood brothers at the 95 world cup... which to be fair was ace but then after that all the players became tonk and nothing like that ever happened again.

I think once every year will be enough.

I always cringed for Man Utd when they were the venue for the big Challenge Cup final (or whatever it was called).
The pitch would cope with a few rugby games each season. Most of the place that had problems with sharing with rugby teams were having to deal with a full football season and a full rugby season, or in the early days of Ireland playing at Lansdowne Road, it was a case of a rugby pitch having an odd football game on it. Old Trafford never seemed to have any ill effects from having the grand final every year and Newcastle have had a whole weekend of fixtures played at St James Park for a few years with no issues, and that`s having 6 games over the course of a weekend.

Super League final. To be honest I wouldn’t mind taking that off them. Full house every year and the fans would fill the coffers of the club in beer sales. I wouldn’t want that ‘Magic weekend’ when about 6 matches are played over the weekend. It would wreck the pitch.

United have a contract until 2027 , If the test goes well I think we’ll get at least one season of it . I also think they might try a magic weekend in 2026 .

For those thinking it’ll wreck our pitch Newcastle , the pit and Elland Road have all had magic weekends relatively recently and managed not to ruin the pitch . So for the life of me I can’t see why we’d

The whole point of a new stadium is we raise revenue streams yet people are acting like an old man shouting at kids to “get off the grass “ .

In 1947 on a field double the size of a football pitch 😂

And? Loads of Gaels around who were there or involved.

It’s something every Gael would know. One of the most famous All Ireland Finals of All Time.

GAA Championship matches are played in the UK and America almost every year.

If the FA Cup Final had been played abroad in Sydney I’m sure association football fans would remember it.

Ticket pricing for the three Rugby games are:

The three games all have four category prices which for adults and under-16s are:

Category 1: £60/£40
Category 2: £45/25
Category 3: £35/20
Category 4: £30/15

Was just looking at some of the historical attndences they tended to be 20-30k, the last time it was held was in the early 00s at Wigan and Huddersfield’s grounds.

Things like this aren’t bad things for our naming rights negotiations/deal.

No, but the All Ireland Senior Football final was played outside of Ireland once before in New York. ;)

Despite what others are saying here - playing the final outside of Ireland has happened before.

So you can ignore the preceding ill informed faux outrage.

GAA purity disappeared the moment they allowed that England rugby team to put their cloven hooves on Croke Park.

What exactly did you cringe at? The fact that they have a venue so sort after that they're able to regularly exploit it for massive financial gain and exposure? Good sound, business seems like a really odd thing to cringe at.........

I just dont want it to be synonymous with our stadium when we dont even have a presence there ourselves yet.

OT and Anfield had massive histories at those stadiums so it meant next to nothing identity-wise when rugby games appeared there.

Leeds is the danger: every time they played you could see the lines on the pitch.

That cant happen at our stadium when we have what looks like an experimental surface and we haven't even established OURSELVES there yet.

We cant handle both of those aspects so any non-football sport should be a one off for years to come IMO. Get this international out the way, take the cash and then leave it.
