One thing I sometimes do when returning from injury is a bit of “ Jeffing” , Run -Walk - Run . I use 3min30 run/ 30 sec walk but thers lots of variations . Jeff Galloway is the guy most associated with it hence “ Jeffing” . You might find that doing 5km like this gets you the start you need, sometimes it’s just motivation then you’ll see the gradual improvement without stressing your body too much.
nice one mate

@blueloon

All the best for the London marathon at the weekend mate ;)
Cheers mate. It’s been a depressing week, in Sunday’s 6 miler my ankle was still achy , and afterwards I got a message from the guy I’d stood next to at the football that he had Covid! So I’ve been semi isolating just in case I gave it to Mrs blueloon. I declared myself all clear today after 4 days of negative tests. All fights, hotels , car park etc booked . Just going to go for it and hope the last six miles are not too painful on the ankle ?

London Marathon update.
Well that was the most painful marathon I’ve ever done, but done it is ??! I finished in 4hrs 49 mins

The ankle was troublesome from the start , going after 6 miles, gone by about 10 so I got gradually slower. By 18 miles the whole Achilles and calf were aching , and I got even slower , just had to keep running to get to the finish, if I stopped and walked I’d likely not get going again! A blister on the right heel was troublesome but I was too busy worrying about other things as strangely for me I was getting twinges of cramp and a big spasm at the 26 mile mark stopped me dead , I just hope my instant “ faaarrrk “ wasn’t captured on anybody’s video ?.

Although 1/2 hour over what I would have liked I’m not disappointed with the time , it is what it is in the circumstances. I can’t honestly say I enjoyed the race , it was a more a mental thing to keep going, there was too much head down plugging away to really enjoy the crowds . But it’s 10 mins under the London Marathon M70 Good For Age criteria ( this usually gives you an automatic entry next year) ….so despite the many thoughts along the way of “ this is silly, too much for my body” , I’ve applied for a GFA place in ‘23 ! Tis what we do ??‍♂️

That‘s a tremendous achievement mate, regardless of the time.

Most fun runners, do it iaround 5.10-5.20, so to do a sub 5hr, considering your injuries, is something to be very proud of ;)

@blueloon @JimmyJeffers

I`ve finally got a diagnosis about my chest / breathing problems.

It`s come out of studies, into long covid, in a college athletes in America and is going to be tagged onto the ever growing list of long covid symptoms.

Exercise Induced Broncoconstriction. (E.I.B. )

It`s asthma, in all but name.

The airways narrow and constrict, during strenuous exercise, causing breathing difficulties during exercise and a dry cough, a raw chest and hoarseness afterwards - all of my symptoms.

As of yet, they have no idea, why it affects people, who prior to catching covid, were very fit, as no damage shows up on the lungs / heart etc and the only treatment at the mo, is inhalers - just like asthma.

Apologies for Congratulating you well after the event. However us runners never get tired of being congratulated. HA

Brilliant time considering you were carrying an injury.

Would you do another?
