Let me be clear, I am not in favour of bombing in Syria and definitely do not want our troops on the ground.

But look at another scenario what if there had been such massacres in London, Manchester or Edinburgh how would Corbyn et al and SNP feel then. Just turn a blind eye?

Corbyn has repeatedly stated he wants a political solution but has never indicated hot to go about achieving that. How do you talk to parties who have used chemical weapons on their own citizens, who have behead ordinary folk like charity workers, thrown gays off buildings, kidnapped hundreds of women for sex slaves, continually stated unless one believes in their form of islam you should die or be killed.

So yes how do you talk to achieve a political solution.
Cameron and his ilk are going to put a bullseye on the streets of London, Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds....

Just for that reason there should be no action in Syria.

This is Cameron and the Tory's Blair moment. No question about it.

He's all over the place. He has NOT made the case for involvement in Syria. Only his own MPs and Blairite* rebels in the LP could back this vote.

*Blair just come out and backed bombing in Syria...which should just about clinch the case for not doing it.

I rarely agree with Dave on stuff, but we still rub along very well. But I just cannot see the point in lobbing a few bombs into Syria either.

It isnt appeasement to say that, it is playing into their hands.

Not saying I know the answer, not entirely sure what the question is if I am honest, but us bombing some seemingly random targets seems to be a pretty blunt knife.

You side stepped the contents of my post by continuing with your boring tirade about Cameron.

...soft arse Cameron has said it'll help 70,000 'non jihadist' fighters on the ground win a ground war against ISIS and Assad.

The whole thing is a sham - a sham that we will pay for, not him and his cronies.

So what was the Hebdo killings about? What of our soldier who was beheaded in the street? what of 7/7/

Terrible tragedies that should never happen. Bombing Syria will only increase the likelihood and frequency of these types of atrocities IMO. I just think we have to learn from Iraq and Afghanistan. You can't bomb your way to a peaceful resolution

Agree,I did say I was not in favour of bombing!

I am in favour of targeting Daesh as part of a strategy which integrates the taking back and securing of territory by local players and a political process which ends in a peace settlement and the rule of law.

Winter blackouts threaten Ukraine amid Russian coal embargo
CoalUkraineCropped.jpg

In 2013, anthracite-burning power plants generated 21% of total Ukraine's electricity. Problems with anthracite supply decreased the capability of Ukraine's power plants to deliver enough electric capacity last winter and forced Ukraine to perform rolling blackouts.

Energy Minister Volodymyr Demschyshin stated earlier that Ukraine planned to buy 200mn tonnes of Russian coal per month as well as sourcing coal from South Africa. In September, Ukrainian thermal power plants burned about 5mmt of anthracite, one third of which was supplied from Russia.

"It won't be a problem for the Ukrainian energy system to get smoothly though this winter without Russian anthracite, if the anthracite is regularly supplied from the occupied territories of Donbas [held by Russian-backed insurgents]," writes Alexander Paraschiy, head of research at Kyiv brokerage Concorde Capital. "Unfortunately, such supplies are not secured, given that it's Russia that's the decision-maker on the occupied territories. Therefore, the risks of new blackouts in Ukraine this winter is increasing," he adds.

"As of [November 25], Ukraine's power plants had 944 kt of anthracite, according to the state power dispatcher. Such stockpiles are 2.7x bigger than a year ago, but still are too small to go through the winter season. They will be enough for power plants to operate only one month," Paraschiy adds.

Indiscriminate air strikes won't achieve anything productive. However groups like the YPG would not have had anywhere near the success they have had without coordinated air strikes.

Very unlikely DAESH will ever negotiate a peace settlement, and the only rule of law they will accept is the sharia.
