Erdogan appears to be a loose cannon, it concerns me that he has the backing of NATO. While being in NATO affords protection it also requires responsibility, downing a Russian plane for violating your airspace for 17 seconds so close to a war zone is an act complete irresponsibility. It is also hypocrisy given that Turkish planes violate the airspace of Greece regularly.

personally im concerned where turkey is heading politically. erdogan has a little jihadist working on his head. he is building a protective walls around his political empire. he will be turkeys dictator for years to come. turkey was quite "western" country some time ago but now his party is dragging turkey backwards. political reforms are destroying turkeys relatively open society that was created in the last decades.

I think it is a mistake to say he is a bit jihadi - if anything, he probably wants to bring back the situation that saw the Turks rule the more important parts of the Islamic world for nearly a thousand years.
He is a disgrace, though. A prominent Kurdish human rights lawyer got assassinated just this morning, by unidentified gunmen who havent been caught yet*, an incident that is perhaps not unrelated to an impending court case that he was facing after suggesting the PKK were not terrorists.
* of course state media and government ministers have been able to suggest that it was the PKK who did it

Expect that it isn't just "taking the blame" if Russia decide to down a couple of Turkish planes as a retaliatory strike it is an attack on NATO and all NATO countries are meant to respond.
Personally I am not happy with someone like Erdogan setting the agenda for NATO.

Maybe this time, but Putin won't allow Erdogan to out bully him in world affairs. Plus Putin will know most of NATO won't want to risk an escalation of hostilities on behalf of Turkish leader who is playing to his own electorate.
